THE EFFECTS OF GENDER EQUALITY AND

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
AMONG THE STUDENT OF NORTHEASTERN
COLLEGE
Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM
AND ITS
BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Gender equality will be achieved only when women and
men enjoy the same opportunities, rights and obligations
in all spheres of life. This means sharing equally, power
and influence, and having equal opportunities in
economic and social spheres. Equal claim on education
and career prospects will enable women to realize their
personal ambitions.
Gender equality demands the empowerment of
women, with a focus on identifying and redressing
power imbalances and giving women more autonomy
to manage their own lives.
When women are empowered, the whole family
benefit, thus benefiting the society as a whole and
these benefits often have a ripple effect on future
generations.
Gender equality can be taken to refer to the
equal valuing by society of the similarities and the
differences of men and women and the role that they
play. Gender equality is the fundamental development
analysis in every society hence it is important to the
enable both men and women to participate equally in
the society and the national at large (United Nation,
2014).
Gender equality is the most pervasive global
problem of the 21st century militating against the
attainment of sustainable development in
particular societies.

problem of the 21st century militating against
the attainment of sustainable development in
particular societies.
Mobility and Decision making
 Other than educational and economic empowerment, changes in
women's mobility social interaction, participation in decision making
are also necessary. As per The estimates of NSS 68th Round (2011
– 2012), the proportion of female headed household in rural and
urban areas were 11.5% and 12.4% respectively. Still today a very
small percentage of Indian women have the freedom in household
decision making, visiting their family and relatives and going outside
home.
 Besides, in most of the Indian communities’ women do not have the
right to decide how many children they will have. Moreover, a
woman does not have the freedom to spend her spouse's earnings
and even her own earnings as per her choice and need.
Education
 Education is the single most important
factor to ensure gender equality and
women empowerment. Enrolment of
girls in every school, survival and
transition to higher level education lead
to achieving gender parity in education.
Social and Political fields
 Greater participation of women in
social and political sphere is essential
to make the social and political
institutions more representative. It
serves as a tool for empowerment of
women and contributes to gender
sensitive decision making.
Access to resources
 Access to resources is important for economic
freedom of women as freedom of movement is
linked with their economic independence and also
infuses with power and expands agency. The
National Family Health Survey-3 has identified five
important variables namely: knowledge of loan
programmed, get loan, having bank account,
higher educational attainment and working outside
as a measure of economic independence.
Statement of the Problem
 The study aims to discover the
influence of discrimination that affects
their behavior among gender identity
of the Bachelor of Science in
Criminology students in Northeastern
College. It specially answers the
following questions.
1. The Demographic profile of the respondents

a. Course/ College Level

b. Age

c. Gender Identity

2. What are the common factors why they experience discrimination?

3. What are the impacts of discrimination that affects their daily living?

4. How do gender misconceptions that impact of behavior?

5. What are the proposed solutions or recommendations?

Significance of the Study
 This study will provide useful information and
educate the researchers in 1st year criminology
students as well as the future researchers,
staff, and other year level students. It may also
help the 1st year criminology students and the
researchers to prevent bullying. This research
will provide possible solution for the students
who are experiencing bullying.
Scope and Delimitation
 The cover of this study is within the influence of discrimination that
affects their behavior among gender identity of the Bachelor of
Science in Criminology students. The study focused only at the
Northeastern College, specially, the Bachelor of Science in
Criminology students. The research is limited only on the topic
given and should not jump further to the different aspects that are
not related to the study. The data gathered were merely come from
interviews, observations and related studies.
 The researchers conducted one on one interview to the 30
students from different block of Bachelor of Science in Criminology
students in Northeastern College, School Year 2019-2020.
Assumption of the Study
The expected outcome of this research will be:
A. To prevent the bullying among 1st year
criminology students of Northeastern College.
B. To precede the self-esteem of 1st year
criminology students of Northeastern College.
C. To educate every 1st year criminology students
about the effects of discrimination that can
influence to their behavior.
Chapter III
METHODOLOGY
 This chapter is all about the
methods used by the researchers
to complete the study. It contains
the research design, the research
locale, and the subjects of the
study, the analysis and collection
of data.
Research Design
 The design applied in the study is Qualitative Research and the
approach is Case Study. The data gathered can be in the form of
idea, action and symbol. It is more on the interpretation and
analysis with the data collected by the researchers who
conducted the study and put into words.
 The researchers employed this kind of method to find out all the
data in a specific group of people for this specific study. In
addition, it is also to fully understand and discover the influence
of discrimination that affects their behaviour among gender
identity in Northeastern College, via cunning interview and keen
observations to the different people involved in the study.
Research Locale
 The study was conducted at Northeastern College in
Barangay Villasis, Santiago City, Isabela. Specifically,
in the College Department, Bachelor of Science in
Criminology students, where the respondents can be
found. The researchers specifically chose to conduct
their research at Northeastern College because there
are already College students in the school. Moreover,
for them to easily conduct their survey and get the
results.
Subjects of the Study
 The researchers randomly selected the
respondents of the study from Northeastern
College. There are 30 selected Bachelor of Science
in Criminology students in different ages and
gender preferences who undergone a survey. The
researchers choose the respondents for the reason
that they are suitable for it when it comes to the
level of maturity and reliability. The certain groups
were the targeted participants to gather data from
them for the study.
Research Instruments
 In this study, the researchers utilized different
instruments to gather all the data that was
needed and accomplish it. The researchers
capitalized most the use of modern technology
such as smart phones and laptop for encoding
all the data collected. The use of papers and
pens were also used for writing purposes as
well as the survey questionnaire to gather data
from the respondents.
Data Collection Procedure
 First, the researchers prepared questions. The questions in
the questionnaire is related to the specific problem. To make
the questionnaires suitable, the researchers asked for help to
make some minor changes in the layout and rearrange the
questions properly.
 After that, the researchers sought permission to the
respondents of each courses in conducting the survey from
the different blocks. The research questionnaires were
distributed to Bachelor of Science in Criminology students
from different blocks randomly.
Data Analysis Procedure
 First, gathered up all of the collected data. After that, the
researchers wrote all the data in different sheets of paper
according to the different blocks of Bachelor of Science in
Criminology students.
 They tallied the result of the survey based from the demographic
profile of respondents and their answers from the questions in
the survey questionnaire. Both in the tables and number items.
After the researchers tallied the answers of each block in
different sheets of paper, they combined all of the tallied data in
one sheet of paper.
 With these, the researchers were able to interpret and analyzed
the results in a combined tallied data more easily.
