CURRENT SETTING
History of Lunzuran, Zamboanga City

Long before the Spaniards came, the whole Zamboanga was covered with forest except the areas along the
shores. The natives engaged in fishing, they inhabit in the shore lines. Upon their arrival, the Spaniards
undertook at once the task of building a town, which is at present the city of Zamboanga. This town became a
center, so that, it prospered and expanded to its present boundaries. Many people made good in the place, so
they decided to settle there permanently with their families. It was then Moros harassed the foreigners while
they were on campaign. The Spaniards reached the farthest place where the settlers built their homes. On their
way, they met a man carrying bundles of vegetables. The soldier who wish to know the name of the place,
asked him in Spanish, “Que se llamas estoy lugar?” The man did not understand what he was talking about. All
he thought the Spaniard was asking him where he was going, so he answered, “sa lungsod”, which is in
Visayan dialect, meaning “going to town”. Since the Spaniard found difficulty in saying the Visayan word,he
pronounced it as “lunzur”, until many settlers heard it, until many people modified the place as “lunzuran”
which meant pleasant and so romantic to hear.

the barangay of Putik. During the rainy season and when
it floods, often the river brings down tons of river sand.

RECOMMENDATION
 Provide (Mechanically stabilized earth) It can be used for retaining walls, bridge
support .
 Bandalong Litter Trap must apply, it can capture litter before it flows further
downstream by using the current to guide debris into the trap.
 provide gabions for it can protect the riverbank to collapse.
 to solve the identified problem of traffic in putik-lunzuran road and tumaga-lunzuran
road, the researcher decide to provide an open space for habal-habal driver and
tricycle where they can stop and drop the passanger and to provide walk shed 15
meters away from the national highway.
 Commercial development along diversion road/road widening.
Mechanically stabilized earth
Bandalong Litter Trap
This performance floatable control
technologycontinuously operates 365 days a
year without any mechanical assistance to
capture floating litter. The Bandalong is a
proven, cost-effective solution for floatables
control and is the answer to the growing
problem of litter in our waterways. The
Bandalong Litter Trap is the ideal in-stream
solution for floatables where combined sewer
overflows are concerned. The Bandalong
Litter Trap has been cleaning waterways in
Australia and Asia for more than 15 years.
GABIONS

• When loose rock won’t do the job,

loose rock in restraints just might.
Like riprap, civilizations have been
using gabions for centuries. Ancient
Egyptians lined the Nile River with
rock-filled boxes made of hemp rope.

Today’s gabions are large wire
mesh
baskets that imprison rock so it can’t
move. These baskets are then
fastened together to form flexible,
permeable, monolithic structures.
Unlike loose riprap, a gabion structure
will retain its overall strength even if
one of its components is removed or
damaged.
TRAFFIC SOLUTION
• Provide 15 meters away walk shed

• 15 meters away/traffic boundary for

habal-habal and tricycle
