DAY 4
Objective:
Describe what
happens to the
solid materials
when they are
hammered.
Review:
•Name solid materials
that can be pressed?
•* What happened to
solid materials when
pressed?
Identify the following materials that can be pressed.

Solid materials can be presses.
When presses, these materials may
change their size and shape. Other
solid materials may also change their
texture when pressed. However, no
new materials is formed because
only the physical appearance of the
material is changed.
Motivation:

Write anything that is associated with hammer.

A Hammer
Is a hand tool usually
consists of a solid head held
on the end of a handle. It is
used for beating/striking or
pounding materials or
objects.

Group Activity:
Activity 4:

“What Happens to Solid

Materials When
Hammered?”
Standards in Doing Group
Activity:
1.Follow the given directions.
2.Work cooperatively.
3.Work quietly.
4.Work fast.
5.Work neatly.
MATERIALS
NEEDED:

•1 pc of block of wood, empty

tin can, (lata),
•1 hollow block, small sheet of
galvanize iron
•1 hammer
What to Do:
CAUTION : Be careful in handling the
materials. Do don’t play with the materials.

1. Hammer each of the given

materials. Observe what happens.
2. Record your observations in your
science notebook using the table.
Activity 4: What Happens to Solid Materials when Hammered?

Materials Observation

empty tin can (lata)
piece of hollow block

Sheet of galvanize iron

Guide Questions:

1. What happened to the solid materials

when they were hammered?
2. Was a new material formed when
solid material was hammered?
3. Explain the phases each material
underwent as hammering was
applied/
Remember:
● A hammer is a hand tool
which consists of a solid head
held on the end of a handle. It
is used for beating/striking or
pounding materials/ objects.
Remember:
Solid materials can be hammered
depending on their composition. When
hammered, these materials may
change their size and shape, and even
the texture. However, no new material
is formed because only the physical
appearance of the material is changed.
Valuing:
● Carpenters and other construction
worker make use of hammer in
driving nails, beating metals, fixing
and repairing objects/materials, and
others. If you were a
carpenter/construction worker, in
what way can you protect your
fingers from being hammered?.
Evaluation
Fill in the blanks.
Solid materials when hammered
changed its ________, ________
and _________. No _________
material is formed. Only the
_______ appearance of the
material changed.
