Definitions
The sea mile: The sea mile is the distance of one minute of arc of latitude at a
given (current) latitude and along the current meridian. Because the Earth is not
a true sphere, one minute of latitude arc on pole differs from one-minute
latitude arc near the equator. This calculator evaluates the length of sea mile at

Cable: A cable length or length of cable is a nautical unit of measure equal to
one tenth of a nautical mile or approximately 100 fathoms. a cable length can be
anywhere from 169 to 220 metres, depending on the standard used. The unit is
named after the length of a ship's anchor cable in the Age of Sail.
International: 185.2 m, equivalent to 1⁄10 nautical mile

A fathom is a unit of length used especially for measuring the depth of water. The

fathom is neither an International Standard (SI) unit, nor an internationally-accepted
non-SI unit. Historically, however, it is the most frequently employed maritime
measure of depth in the English-speaking world.

• The geographical mile is a unit of length determined by 1 minute of arc
along the Earth's equator. For the international ellipsoid 1924 this equalled
1855.4 meters. The American Practical Navigator 2017 defines the
geographical mile as 6087.08 feet (1855.342 m).

• The statute mile was standardized between the British Commonwealth

and the United States by the international agreement in 1959 when it was
formally redefined with respect to SI units as exactly 1,609.344 metres.

‫التباعد ‪:‬هو المسافة الفعلية التي تقطعها السفينة في اتجاه الشرق او الغرب عند تحركها من‬
‫مكان الي مكان على سطح الكره األرضية أي انا التباعد هو المسافة بين أي خطي طول عند‬
‫أي خط عرض وتقاس هذه المسافة باالميال البحرية حيث تقل كلما زاد العرض حتى تبلغ صفر‬
‫عند األقطاب ويبلغ التباعد اقصى قيمة له عند خط االستواء‬
