The Problem: Rationale and Background
The researchers aim to determine
the effects of the different colours of
light and identify which among the
colours had the greatest effect in the
increase of height and production of
leaves of the mayana plants.
This study is based on Plants and Coloured Lights, a research paper
made to know how the color lights affect the growth of Dwarf French
marigold plants. The researchers have planned to add some alterations
to the original idea. Because the water cellophanes fade over time, 5050
LED RGB strips would be used to ensure that each mayana plant would
receive the same amount of exposure of lights. The amount of time the
plants would be expose to light would be equal. The plants used in the
study would also be given equal treatment in terms of amount of water
received. The researchers have planned to innovate this study as they
deem this as a useful tool to obtain better quality and growth of plants.
Statement of the Problem
Generally, the study was conducted to determine the effects of
the different colors of light on the growth of mayana.
Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions
1. What is the average height increase of mayana plants that are
exposed in:
A. Red LED Lights
B. Orange LED Lights
C. Blue LED Lights
D. Sunlight (control)
2. What is the average number of leaves of mayana plant that
are exposed in:
A. Red LED Lights
B. Orange LED Lights
C. Blue LED Lights
D. Sunlight (control)
ENVIRONMENT BUSINESS
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The experimentation was conducted in the researcher's
residence at Tiptip, Tagbilaran City Bohol in the School Year
2020-2021. This research study is focused on the determination
of the effects of the different colours of light on the growth of
mayana.
This study attempts to find out what are the effects of the
different colours of lights on mayana plants in terms of height
and number of leaves produced.
This study is limited to only use one species of mayana plant
which is called Coleus Blumei. The mayana plants used in the
study are twenty-eight-day old seedlings. LED lights are used in
each set-up.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
Four set-ups were tested; three experimental
groups and one control group. The three
experimental groups are plants exposed in red,
orange and blue LED lights while the control group
are plants exposed in sunlight. In each set-up, five
mayana plants are tested. The mayana plants in
each set-up was placed a hundred-centimetre
distance from LED lights and had a distance of
about one to two inches in between each Mayana
plants. The mayana plants are measured weekly.

SET-UP D (SUNLIGHT)
Procedure:
Application of Water
Procedure:
Gathering of Data
The researchers observed and measured the height (cm) and
number of leaves of the plants daily for six (6) weeks. Every
week, the following data was collected per plant in each set up:
a. Height (cm)- Measured from the base of the Mayana plant
to the base off fully opened top leaf using a measuring tape and
ruler.
b. Number of leaves- It was measured by counting the leaves
on each of the Mayana plant. Shoots were also included and
considered as a success in leaf production.
Procedure:
Statistical Analysis
The researchers used the One-Way ANOVA to
determine whether there is a significant difference
among the height and number of leaves of mayana
plants between red LED lights (Set-up A), orange
LED lights (Set-up B), blue LED lights (Set-up C) and
sunlight. If the null hypothesis is rejected, Tukey Test
will be used to compare the four independent
variables and to find out which among the set-ups
were significantly different from each other.
