FITNESS
Course Description
• 2-unit course
• students acquire practical know-how and
scientific knowledge about Human
Movement
• Focus on the development and maintenance
of the individual's physical, mental and
social life while engaging in fun-filled and
research-oriented activities.
• This course reintroduces Service Physical
Education students the fundamental movement
patterns that consist of non-locomotor and
locomotor skills, which are integrated with core
training to meet the demands of functional
fitness and physical activity performance.

• Emphasis will be on exercise regression and

progression for the enhancement of fitness and
the adaptation of movement competencies to
independent physical activity pursuits.
• This course is rooted from an interdisciplinary
perspective that combines and integrates aspects
from social, natural and health sciences concerning
physical activity.

• Fundamental fields such as anatomy, physiology,

biomechanics, motor control, psychology and
epidemiology, are viewed in relation to performance
ability and exercise.

• Focus is placed on individuals and groups at different

levels of skill, age and fitness.
• Knowledge about both individual and collective
skills is taught on the basis of both theories and the
results of empirical research.

• This also provides training in different movement

patterns and core engagement in conjunction with
principles of healthy eating, caution and safety to
injuries, and a physically active life. Students will be
able to adapt and transfer the movement
competency in different contexts (i.e. use of training
equipment, sport clinique, dance laboratories).

PERFORMANCE ABILITY AND INJURY PREVENTION

• Classes will be FACE TO FACE, asynchronous/ independent
learning but guided with the topic outline, tasks, worksheets,
links, and suggested reading and viewing materials
• flipped-classroom structure
• Viewing online instructional workshops
• appropriate-available e-learning activities

• practical application of theoretical knowledge of physical

activities with 21st century technology

• students will be able to adapt and transfer the movement

competency in different contexts
• B. Objectives
•
• At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:
• K - Demonstrate understanding of knowledge, facts,
program and safety in relation to Human Movement.
• S - Create a physical activity that demonstrates new
pattern or proposing alternative solution for Human
Movement and execution.
• A - Imbibe self-efficacy, perseverance & become product-
driven in organizing a physical activity program.
Course Learning Outcomes
ACTIVE AND HEALTHY LIVING
1.Access, synthesize and evaluate information through PF E-learning on:
•healthy eating and fitness behaviors, products and services;
•risks associated with physical activity;
•Fitness and physical activity assessment results;
•activity patterns throughout the lifespan;
•and personal, cultural and social factors that motivate or inhibit healthy
choices about physical activity and nutrition behaviors to enhance one’s
capacity to take responsibility for oneself.
2. Participate in moderate to vigorous physical
activities in accordance with national and global
recommendation for physical education in the
“new normal” set-up. Participation in:
-Onscreen recorded performances
-Virtual presser type reporting/ other modes of
creative presentations for online blogging
-Zoom meetings/ Google meets/ FB messenger
or Video calls, etc.
ADVOCACY AND PROMOTION
•1. Devise, apply and appraise a range of
strategies to improve physical activity
performances and injury prevention through E-
learning experiences.
•2. Promote practical and creative interventions
that will create community connection and
contribute to the health and well-being of the
school and/or larger community through PF-ICT
activities.
WHAT TO PREPARE FOR IN THIS CLASS?

•Creative discussions/ presentations

•Create exercise routines/ movement exploration
based on the PE COMPONENT (Fitness/
Sports/ Dance)
•Midterm and Final Term Written and
Performance Examinations
Topic Outline for PATHFIT 1
• UNIT 1 Foundations of Human Movement in Physical
Education

1.Human Movement Sciences: An Introduction to the Course

2.Types of Human Movement: Locomotor and Non-locomotor
Movements
3.Anatomical and Physiological Bases of Human Movement
4.Biomechanics and Kinesiology
• I. “FOUNDATION OF HUMAN MOVEMENT”
• What is “Human Movement”?
• What are the different types of Human Motion/
Movement?
• Situations where a type of Human Motion is applied.
• Essential elements of Human Movement and its relation
to dance, games, recreation and sports.
2. Types of Human Movement: Locomotor and
Non-locomotor Movements
• Which of these examples are locomotor and
non-locomotor movements?
Walking?
Bend?
Punch?
3. Anatomical and Physiological Bases
of Human Movement
• Anatomical Positions
• Anatomical Planes
• Anatomical Directions
• Body Systems and Organs
• Anatomical & Physiological Terms of Motion
4. Biomechanics and kinesiology
• Biomechanics is the science of movement of a living body,
including how muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments work
together to produce movement. Biomechanics is part of the
larger field of kinesiology, specifically focusing on the
mechanics of the movement.

• Three major areas of study of kinesiology namely, mechanics,

anatomy and physiology.
Cont.
• Motor Learning and Motor Control in the different
programs of Physical Education:
• UNIT 2. Fitness
• UNIT 3. Individual, Dual & Combative Sports
• UNIT 4. Team Sports
• UNIT 5. Dance
• UNIT 6. Movement Injuries, Rehabilitation and
Therapy and Psychology in Dance, Sports and
Recreation
CREATIVE DISCUSSIONS/
PRESENTATIONS
• TASK: Act as characters in your creative discussion. Each group will do a
CREATIVE DISCUSSION on the assigned topic.
• The video will last for a minimum of 9 minutes to a maximum of 12
minutes (Intro-body-closing). You can take it from existing documentaries
or videos, edit/ cut, make sure you cite the source. Be sure you are the
ones talking and to be seen in your group creative discussion
• Be creative in making your video documentation, apply any presentation
(talk show, NATGEO/ TELE-MAGAZINE type, or drama, etc.) coupled with
your DOCUMENTING AND EDITING SKILLS.
• Include ending credits and a production list at the end of your
documentary, from your director, video editor, scriptwriters, etc.

• This will be presented in class on Week 4, August 22, 23, 24, 25, & 26, 2022.
