Speech - the
communication or
expression of thoughts
in spoken words
Expository Speech
-to explain information
- explain or to show process, a concept,
or a set of facts.
- delivered extemporaneously
(memorized), with or without the use of
a 4 x 6 note card.
- visual and/or audio aids are permitted
Examples:
1.Delivering an academic report
2.Explaining data with the use of
graphic organizers (charts, graphs)
3.Giving a news report
4.Introducing a guest speaker
Tips in delivering an expository
speech:
1.Maintain a cool, dignified aura
throughout the speech.
2.Insert some humor, just to break
the monotony of seriousness.
3.Stress words properly.
Entertaining Speech
-your skill to describe, and your ability
to narrate
-creatively portray details and weave
stories to evoke emotions in your
audience.
Examples:
• Poetry recital- public oral recitation or
performance of poetry.
• Reader’s theater - dramatic presentation of a
written work in a script form
• Dramatic monologue- a poem in the form of a
speech or narrative by an imagined person, in
which the speaker inadvertently reveals aspects
of their character.
• Declamation- the action or art of declaiming
Tips in delivering an entertaining
speech:
1.Be loose and flexible in your
performance.
2.Adjust your volume and
intonation appropriately.
3.Use nonverbal communication
Persuasive Speech
- we want them to believe in
what to believe, and to take
the course of action that we
would have them to do.
(convince)
Examples:
• Oration-the style or manner in which a formal speech is
given. address, lecture, sermon, valedictory, salutatory; 
• Debate-a formal discussion on a particular topic in a
public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing
arguments are put forward.
• Campaign Speech- speech which tells of promises and
pledges of a candidate who is running in an election
• Advocacy- public support for or recommendation of a
particular cause or policy.
Tips in delivering a persuasive
speech:
1.Be passionate but not angry in
your delivery.
2.The structure of your speech is
crucial.
3. Do not forget eye contact.
