A responsible youth, who witnesses a specific
concern in his/ her community, may begin thinking
of ways to do appropriate actions to solve the

the authorities. With this freedom of initiative, the
youth, will be inspired to serve as a better citizen of
the country.
Other important points to emphasize in relation to social justice are the

Social justice was expanded to cover
people’s political, economic, civil, social
and cultural rights.
Social justice is the virtue by which
individual and groups fulfill their
obligations to society.
Social justice contributes positively to
the complete well- being of fellowmen.
Today, social justice has shifted towards a stronger
emphasis on human rights and improving the lives of
disadvantaged and marginalized groups that have
historically faced discrimination in society. Many of these
groups have been discriminated against on the basis of
factors such as sex, age, wealth, ethnicity, heritage, social
status, religion, and others.

SOCIAL INJUSTICE
refers to situations and issues relating to unequal and
abusive relationship among people, particularly human
rights violations, exploitation, abuse, and discrimination
directed toward certain individuals or groups.

Social justice often leads to efforts to redistribute wealth

to some of the underprivileged groups through providing
income, jobs, and education support and opportunities.
Around 4 million workers (about 12% of the labor force) are unemployed and another 5 million (around
17% of those employed) are underemployed.

May of 2022, as compared to 1,769 for the same period last year in
Central Visayas.

EQUITY IS THE CALL OF THE TIMES”. Identify the social injustices
cited and think of other social injustices you can identify in your
school, baragay, or community and come up with a
corresponding battle cry.

This type of empowerment is
attained by persons who can
directly control what is happening
in their own lives.

Example:
The person’s choice whether to
accept a certain job or not, or to
participate in a certain school
activity.
To sum up, community action initiatives must be guided
by principles and core values of social justice,
human rights, gender equality, and participatory
development. These community actions have a purpose,
which is to enable people to work in solidarity in
addressing social problems. However, it is important to
involve the Filipino youth in addressing these issues so
that their communities may benefit from their
contributions, ideas, and energies. By the participation of
the youth it can help organize, identify and remove
practices that hinder the them to participate in
community development initiative.Doing so will allow the
transition from non participatory practices toward a
more meaningful and higher level of youth participation.
