 Acids

 Substance that give sotaste are known as acid

 Some acidic substance can be seen in home garden are.
 Lemmon
 Tamarind
 Orange
 Vinegar
 Types of acid can be seen in laboratory are

1. Sulphiuric acid (HH2so4 )

2. Nitric acid (HNO3 )
3. Hydro chloric acid (Hcl )
4. Acitic acid (CH3 COOH )
There are some acids that are very dangerous and so
powerful that it is not good for us to touch or smell
them as doing so can harm us
 Bases

 Substances that give soapy nature are called Bases.

 Any thing with a pH greater then 7 is called bases and can vary in temperature
 The type of basic substances can be seen in home garden are .

 Lime water
 Ash
 Shampoo
 Soap
 Detergent
• The type of basic substance can be seen in laboratory are

 Calcium hydroxide =Ca (OH)2

 Magnesium hydroxide = Mg(OH)2
 Potassium hydroxide =KOH
 Sodium hydroxide = NaOH
 Neutral substances

 Substances that not show the acidic or basic property called neutral substance.
• Water
• Salt solution
• Sugar solution
• Honey
• Coconut oil
 indicator

 Solution that give different color with acid and bases are called indicator
1. Blue litmus paper = blue color
2. Phenolphthalein = white color
3. Methyl orange = red color
4. pH paper = yellow paper
5. Red litmus paper = red color
 Litmus paper

 There are two type of litmus paper

1. Red litmus paper= red color
2. Blue litmus paper = blue color
 Red litmus: it turn into blue when applied to bases and does not change color
when applied to acid.
 Blue litmus: it turn to red when applied to acid and does not change it color when
applied to bases
 pH paper

 pH paper miens a kind of yellow colored paper strips

 Thing below pH 7 are acid and thing above pH 7 are base and thing that take pH 7
are neutral
 Natural indicators

 Indicator that are prepare from natural environment called natural indicators
 Extraction of nil katarolu
 Extraction of shoe flower
 Extraction of red cabbage
 Turmeric boiled water
