What is Computer–Assisted Language
Learning (CALL)
Computer-Assisted Language Learning is a learning media
using computer assistance to increase communication or
interaction between teachers and learners.

It is an instructional format where the computer supplements the

instructions, exercises, information, and/or feedback provided
by the instructor.

According to Levy (1997), CALL is the search and study for

application of the computer in language teaching and learning.
Purpose of CALL strongly supports
improved efficiency and
CALL effectiveness of learning that
can improve the quality of
understanding and mastery of
the language studied

Teachers serve as guide,

Role of correspondent, and motivator.
They need to have technical
Teachers competence necessary to manage
the installations and use of CALL
software, because the learner’s
enthusiasm can be diminished
when technical difficulties arise too
often.

Conclusio
n Computers are most popular among students
either because they are associated with fun and
games or because they are considered to be
fashionable. Student motivation is therefore
increased, especially, whenever a variety of
activities are offered, which make them feel more
independent. Network based instruction can help
pupils strengthen their linguistic skills by
positively affecting their learning attitude and by
helping them build self-instruction strategies and
promote their self confidence. It is agreeable that
technological advancement and development has
enabled the application of CALL programs in
language learning and instruction and it has
become a new trend recently.
