Multiply Fraction and a whole number

and another fraction
Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learner will be able to:

• Visualize multiplication of fractions using model

• Multiply a fraction with a whole number and

another fraction

• Multiply mentally proper fractions with

denominators up to 10
In a hospital where Dr. Mary Patriz works as a pediatrician,
she receives bottles of alcohol for personal use. One - third
out of 12 bottles came from the donation of a generous
person. How many bottles came from a donation?

Who is working in the hospital? Dr. Mary Patriz is working in the hospital

What did she receives? She received an alcohol

How many bottles did she received? She received 12 bottles of alcohol

What is asked in the problem? The number of bottles came from a donation.

B. Read and understand the problem, then study how it was solved.

Riza baked some bread to be distributed to victims of Typhoon Ambo in a depressed area. She has 𝟔/ 𝟖
sack of bread flour. She uses 𝟏/𝟐 for baking Pan de Coco. What part of the bread flour was used?

What good deeds did Riza have shown in the story?

If given a chance to do the same, would you do it? Why?

Solution: To make it simpler, multiply 𝟔/𝟖 by 𝟏/𝟐 .

Using the Cancellation Method .

Lesson 1

At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:

• Visualize multiplication of fractions
Introduction

The main purpose of the fraction is to represent the portion

or parts of a whole thing/body. It helps you in judging the
parts easily and hence helpful in distribution or calculation
or estimation. Fractions are important because they tell you
what portion of a whole you need, have, or want. We use
fractions in one way or another in everyday life even
though we may not completely realize it. For example, you
use fractions every time you look at a clock. ... If it were not
for fractions something as simple as baking a cake would be
impossible.
