of individuals on a daily basis. This increases their odds
of being exposed to potentially contagious materials or
people who might be carriers of infectious, viral, or
fungal contagions. Since blood borne pathogens may be
present in any bodily fluid, improper indoor ventilation
can help spread bacteria, thereby turning an overcrowded
office into a hotbed for illnesses.

disaster -- especially one that
affects them, their employees,
and their business personally.
• The simple truth is that
emergencies and disasters can
strike anyone, anytime, and
anywhere.
• You and your employees could be
forced to evacuate your company
when you least expect it.

A workplace emergency is
an unforeseen situation that
threatens employees, or
causes physical or
environmental damage.

INCLUDE?
EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN MUST INCLUDE THE
FOLLOWING:
1. A preferred method for reporting fires and other emergencies.
2. An evacuation policy and procedure.
3. Emergency escape procedures and route assignments, such as floor plans,
workplace maps.
4. Names, titles, departments, and telephone numbers of individuals both within
and outside your company to contact for additional information or explanation of
duties and responsibilities under the emergency plan. ƒ
5. Procedures for employees who remain to perform or shut down critical plant
operations, operate fire extinguishers, or perform other essential services that
cannot be shut down for every emergency alarm before evacuating.
6. Rescue and medical duties for any workers designated to perform them.

EVACUATION PLAN
“An evacuation plan lays out how to exit a building
safely during an emergency. Every member of
employees should be familiar with several ways to
leave the building and know a
safe meeting place outside the
building.”
EVACUATION PLAN PROCEDURE
• Follow the instructions of your Floor/Area/Section Leader.
• Alert other people who might not be aware of the emergency.
• Leave the building quickly but calmly. Do not panic or jostle other
evacuees.
• Do not travel between floors or use the lifts.
• Do not return to your station to retrieve your belongings.
• Pay attention to instructions and treat the evacuation seriously.
• Maintain your safety. Do not become a victim.
• Help others only if you will not risk injury. Otherwise, alert the
authorities.
• Confirm your presence to your Floor/Area/Section Leader at
Assembly Point.
• Do not leave the Assembly Point or attempt building re-entry until
the Commander gives an all-clear.

Security is one of the most vital aspects in a workplace. It is the
duty of the firm to provide a secure working environment to its
employees.
There are various aspects of physical
security in the workplace as given
below:-
SECURITY GUARDS
Guards can be used in two ways:
to monitor the front
desk or to patrol the grounds.

ALARM SYSTEMS
Any alarm system must cover all the doors and windows into
a business to be effective. Most common are motion sensors
that detect movement where it is not supposed to be
occurring, or window glass bugs that are activated when
glass is broken.
PHYSICAL SURVEILLANCE
The monitoring of critical points such as entrance, exit,
IT rooms, critical data center and others should be fully
monitored through robust CCTV surveillance
systems.

PHYSICAL ACCESS CONTROL


The workplace security should be robustly controlled
through ID based physical restriction for unauthorized
access to the workplace or assets of the company.

• Gates & Exterior doors
• Accounting areas – There should be limited access to
the HR and accounting areas. The employee or the
visitor should have to take permission to get
clearance to these two departments.
• Data closets and warehouse areas - Access to server
rooms or data closets should thus be limited. The
same goes for warehouse areas.
• Contactless readers - It includes contactless smart
card and standard prox.
• Biometrics - Fingerprint, retina and hand geometry
are some of the common variations of the biometrics.
THE ROLE OF EMPLOYEES
• Do not leave valuables unattended.
• Lock doors after hours.
• Bolt down or secure equipment if possible.
• Engrave identification numbers on office equipment
and keep a list of serial numbers to give to the police
and insurance companies in case of theft.
• Deposit checks and cash daily.
• Try to leave with at least one other employee if
working late.
• Do not advertise vacation plans.
• Make sure confidential files are secured when the
office is closed.
