Describing Motion Along a Straight

Line and Solving Equations in
Uniformly Accelerated Motion

Mr. Bryan V. Pepito

AVERAGE VELOCITY
Average velocity is defined as the change in position or displacement (∆x)
divided by the time intervals (∆t) in which the displacement occurs.
The average velocity can be positive or negative depending upon the sign
of the displacement.
The SI unit of average velocity is meters per second (m/s or ms -1).
DISPLACEMENT
Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to
"how far out of place an object is"; it is the
object's overall change in position.

Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has
covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to
"how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in
position.
TIME
Time is the measured or measurable period
during which an action, process, or condition
exists or continues.

EXAMPLE PROBLEMS

An object travels 1500 meters in 50 seconds.

1 What is the average velocity?

If Luisa drives from Caloocan City to Laguna with an

average speed of 60 kilometers per hour, for a total of 2
2 hours. How far did she travel?

Cassie walked to her friend’s house with an average

3 speed of 1.40 m/s. The distance between the house is

205m. How long did the trip take her?
I will post later in google classroom your
