THE CELL CYCLE
•THE INTERPHASE
•THE CELL DIVISION
CELL CYCLE
Is a series of events that takes
place in a cell as it grows and
divides
INTERPHASE
•IS THE STAGE OF
CELL CYCLE
WHERE THE
CELL GROWS
AND DNA IS
DUPLICATED
•The interphase
includes the :
•G1 Phase
• S Phase and
•G2 Phase
G1 OR FIRST GAP PERIOD
DURING G1 PHASE THE
CELL GROWS
S PHASE OR SYNTHESIS PHASE

•DURING S PHASE THE

DNA IS DUPLICATED OR
REPLICATED
G2 OR SECOND GAP PERIOD
•DURING G2 PHASE THE
CELL IS ALMOST READY
TO DIVIDE & PREPARING
FOR MITOSIS
CELL DIVISION
•Is the process by which a
parent cell divides into two
or more daughter cells.
MITOSIS
•Is type of cell division in
somatic cells or body cells
and produces two identical
cells with the same number
of chromosomes.
MEIOSIS
•Is a type of cell division in sex cells (sperm
cells & egg cells) and reduces the
numbers of chromosomes in the parent
cell by half and produces four gamete
cells or daughter cells.
STAGES OF MITOSIS
• INTERPHASE
• PROPHASE
• METAPHASE
• ANAPHASE
• TELOPHASE
• CYTOKINESIS
PART OF
CHROMOSOMES
• Chromosomes are
thread like
structures located
inside the nucleus
of cell. It is made
up of protein and
DNA.
• The nucleolus and the
nuclear envelope are
distinct and the
chromosomes are in the
form of threadlike
chromatin.
• The chromosomes
appear
condensed, and
the nuclear
envelope is not
apparent.
• Thick, coiled
chromosomes,
each with two
chromatids, are
lined up on the
metaphase plate.
• The chromosomes are
at the poles, are
becoming more diffuse.
The nuclear envelope is
reforming. The
cytoplasm may be
dividing.
• Division into
two daughter
cells is
completed.
