Chemical Bonds

Ionic Bond
Ionic Bond
• is a bond resulting from the electric attraction between a
positive ion and a negative ion.

What do think
- Can two similar metals form an ionic bond?
- Can two similar nonmetals form an ionic bond?
- Ionic bond produces (element or compound) molecules.
Ionic Bond
• Formation of magnesium oxide molecule:
Covalent bond:                     Nonmetals
chemical bond
originated between the
atoms of nonmetals by
sharing of each atom
with  number of
electrons to complete
the outer electron shell
of each atom.
Covalent bond:                     Nonmetals
• Single covalent bond: where each atom shares the other
atom with one electron (-).
Covalent bond:
 Nonmetals
Double covalent bond: where each atom shares the
other atom with two electrons.(=)
Covalent bond:
 Nonmetals
Triple covalent bond: where each atom shares the
other atom with three electrons.
Covalent bond:
 Nonmetals
What do think

- Ionic bond produces (element or compound or both) molecules.
