SING-AND-THINK
MANGANTA TA KARON MGA KA-IGSUONAN
MANGATA TA KARON PANGALAN SA MGA __________
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

• WHAT IS PANGEAE?
• WHAT ARE THE FOUR LAYERS OF THE EARTH?
• IN YOUR OWN OPINION, WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF VOLCANO?
• WHY DO PANGEAE MOVED UNTIL IT HAS BEEN BROKEN INTO
7 CONTINENTS THAT WE HAVE TODAY?
CONVERGENT
BOUNDARY
OBJECTIVES

• a. Define convergent boundary and name landforms created;

• b. Create a product/idea that is inspired by the concept of convergent
boundary; and
• c. Appreciate the importance of convergent processes in keeping the
balance on Earth.
OCEANIC-OCEANIC CONVERGENT BOUNDARY

• When two oceanic plates collide, a subduction zone is formed. The descending oceanic
plate begins to melt upon contact with asthenosphere.
• The molten material begins to rise, creating a chain of volcanoes. An oceanic trench, a
long narrow depression in the ocean floor, is also created at the subduction zone.
• e.g. Marianas Trench
OCEANIC-CONTINENTAL CONVERGENT
BOUNDARY
• When an oceanic plate collides with a continental plate, the oceanic plate subducts
beneath the continental plate
• This type of convergent boundary forms trench in the Oceanic Crust and Volcanoes on
the Continental Crust.
• e.g. Philippine Trench and Volcanoes in the Philippine Plate
CONTINENTAL-CONTINENTAL CONVERGENT
BOUNDARY
• When two continental plates collide, no subduction happens. Instead the continents suture
themselves. The continental crust buckles and rocks pile up, creating towering mountain
ranges.
• e.g. The Himalayas Mountain Ranges and Cordillera Mountain Ranges
APPLICATION!
Group 1: Tourism Attraction
Group 2: Ulat Kaalaman
Group 3: Preparation is the Key
TOURISM ATTRACTION

• Think of a catchy tagline promoting Cagan as a future tourism attraction in Davao de Oro
showcasing its beautiful views and landforms. In addition, give possible tourism activities
and business establishment while preserving its natural beauty.
• e.g It’s more fun in the Philippines!
ULAT KAALAMAN

• How does the mountainous landform of Cagan counter the catastrophic advent of
typhoon? Make an educational presentation about the given topic like Kuya Kim doing in
24-Oras. The presentation should include the origin of mountain or mountain ranges or
Orogenesis. If possible the group may also add information about the beliefs of Mandaya
about the Mountain that they live in.
PREPARATION IS THE KEY!

• Make an Evacuation Plan as a mitigation and preparation to be ready when calamity

happen in your place. Include things to do Before, During, and After a calamity.
EVALUATION
TEST I: MULTIPLE CHOICE. READ EACH STATEMENT AND WRITE THE
CHOSEN ANSWER ON THE SPACE PROVIDED BEFORE THE NUMBER.

______1. What type of boundary exists when two plates collide with each other.
a. Convergent c. Divergent
b. Transform d. Earthquake
______2. O-O:Island Arc::O-C:_____________
a. Earthquake c. Ridges
b. Volcanic Arc d. Magma
______3. O-O:Island Arc::C-C:_____________
a. Earthquake c. Mountain ranges
c. Volcanic Arc d. Magma
TEST II: LIST DOWN 5 THE TECTONIC PLATES IN THE ILLUSTRATION
THAT UNDERGO CONVERGENT BOUNDARY USING THE ARROW.
TEST II: ESSAY TYPE. BASED ON YOUR UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE TOPIC
CONSTELLATION BRIEFLY EXPLAIN YOUR OPINION AND IDEAS ABOUT
THE STATEMENT/QUESTION BELOW.

How do we explain the existence of our country’s landmarks and tourist spot like Sierra Madre
Mountain Ranges?
ASSIGNMENT
1. Research about Divergent Boundary.
2. Research about Transform Boundary.
VALUES INTEGRATION

• Tectonic plates are gradually but continuously moving. Stress along the boundaries occurs and sometimes, this
creates magnificent landmarks, such as the Himalayas and our very own Sierra Madre and Mayon Volcano. Like the
stress along the boundaries, difficulties in life are also encountered. Remember that these are a natural part of one’s
existence. Just keep moving forward. We don’t know but maybe these difficulties may result in something beautiful
in the future.
• The movement of the plates and the consequences of their movement, such as the occurrence of volcanic activities,
earthquakes, and tsunamis are beyond our control. These natural forces can be very destructive. One should always
be aware of these phenomena and be prepared.
• The subduction of the old lithosphere consequently drives the formation of new lithosphere. Downfalls and
problems in life sometimes leads to new opportunities. Look at the positive side of things and do not lose hope
when you encounter difficulties in life.
OBJECTIVES

• a. Define convergent boundary and name landforms created;

• b. Create a product/idea that is inspired by the concept of convergent
boundary; and
• c. Appreciate the importance of convergent processes in keeping the
balance on Earth.
