What is Glide path?
When looking for a definition of Glide path,
West, 2010 and Cassim and Vyver, 2013, state
the following:
• The endodontic Glide path is a smooth,
reproducible, radicular tunnel from canal
Glide Path orifice to physiologic terminus (foraminal
constriction).
• “Tunnel or passage from the coronal orifice
of the canal to the radiographic terminus or
electronically determined portal of exit.
Tại sao Glide Path lại quan trọng
• Endodontic rationale: “any endodontically diseased tooth can be predictably saved if the root
canal system can be nonsurgically or surgically sealed, the tooth is periodontally sound or can be
made so, and the tooth is restorable.” (West, 2010).
• “A nonsurgical seal requires first the creation of a radicular path that can be cleaned of viable and
nonviable bacteria, vital and nonvital pulp tissue, biofilm, and smear layer; then shaped to a
continuously tapering funnel that can be predictably and easily obturated.” (West, 2010).
• Therefore by creating a Glide path first, it ensures quality control and aids in developing a
foundation for further shaping procedures.
• Sustainable excellent endodontic obturations are not possible without creating a foundation of a
Glide Path first.
• Groundwork for having a successful Glide path should be followed strictly, this then ensures good
endodontic obturations and subsequently good root canal treatment overall.
