COMPONENT OF

SCIENTIFIC
INVESTIGATION
GRADE 7 -SCIENCE
WHAT CAN SAY ABOUT SCIENCE?

• It is the collection of facts which is accurate and reliable

• Focus on discovering new idea/technology which may help
to us.
• More in experiments/methodology
• Its generates solutions for everyday life and helps us to
answer the great mysteries of the universe.
QUESTION

Who are the person that studying or

has expert knowledge of one or more
of the natural or physical sciences?

Scientist
QUESTIONS

HOW scientist
discover/create new idea or
things?
SCIENTIFIC METHOD/
INVESTIGATION
SCIENTIFIC METHOD/INVESTIGATION

•It is a plan which all begins with

observations that created questions
and followed by series of activities
that formulate answer
LET EXAMINE THE PICTURE BELOW
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

1. MAKE OBSERVATION
It is anything that we notice using our senses. We can make
observations using our sense of sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste.

Example: when making a garden, you have observed that plants grow
fast when exposed to the sun.
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

II. ASKING QUESTION

- A good observation will lead to questions. Question of
what do you want to learn and to investigate.

Example: Does sun affect the growth of plants?.

SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

III. MAKING HYPOTHESIS

- It is done by predicting the answer based on scientific
knowledge. A good hypothesis is testable.

Example: If the plants will be exposed to the sun, it will grow

fast.
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

III. MAKING HYPOTHESIS

- It is done by predicting the answer based on scientific
knowledge. A good hypothesis is testable.

Example: If the plants will be exposed to the sun, it will grow

fast.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING

VARIABLE
1. INDEPENDENT VARIABLE - the variable
that is being manipulated or controlled.
2. DEPENDENT VARIABLE – changes because
of the test.

ASKING QUESTIONS
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HYPOTHESIS

“The tomato grow fastest under fluorescent

incandescent or natural light”
What is the independent variable?
The type of light the tomato plant is grow
What is the dependent variable?
The rate of growth of tomato plant
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HYPOTHESIS

“Do people sleep more will gain weight than the

people sleep less”
What is the independent variable?
weather the people sleep more or less
What is the dependent varialble?
The number of sleeping hours and gain weight
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

IV. CONDUCT EXPERIMENT

-is a test that will prove or disapprove the hypothesis.
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

V. RECORD AND ANALYZE

THE RESULT
- Make sure to record and analyzed the result.
SCIENTIFIC METHODS STEPS

VI. DRAW A CONCLUSION

- Conclusion make a statement that accept or reject the
hypothesis
