Objectives
• Promoting carpooling as a sustainable transportation solution.
• Decrease traffic congestion in specific areas.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

• Reducing individual fuel consumption and costs.
• Contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution.

Existing System (Literature Surveys)
Delhi's Odd-Even Rule:

• Delhi's government introduced the "Odd-Even Rule" as a policy to

reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
• This rule restricts the use of private vehicles based on their registration
numbers (odd or even) on designated days.

Blablacar: BlaBlaCar is a global long-distance carpooling platform

that connects drivers traveling from one city to another with travelers
heading in the same direction. It operates in multiple countries.
11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve
UberPOOL: UberPOOL is a feature within the Uber app that allows
riders to share rides with others traveling along similar routes. It aims
to reduce costs and congestion by matching riders headed in the same
direction.
Rapido: Rapido is a motorcycle taxi service, offering convenient solo
travel. However, it focuses on single-passenger rides, limiting its
potential to reduce traffic and carbon emissions.

Methodology
Methodology for project on carpooling to solve traffic and fuel price
issues, including the sequence of steps to follow:
Step 1: User Location Assessment
•Begin by collecting user location data to determine if individuals live
near each other or have similar commuting routes..
Step 2: Workplace Proximity Analysis
•Once potential matches are identified based on location, assess if their
workplaces are near each other.
Step 3: Work Schedule Alignment
•Collect information about users' typical work hours, including start and
end times.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Step 4: Vehicle Type Compatibility
• Assess the compatibility of users' vehicle types for carpooling.
• Consider factors like seating capacity, fuel efficiency, and any specific
requirements or restrictions for carpooling.
• If one person has a vehicle, and another person does not, but their
locations and workplaces are the same, it presents an ideal scenario for
carpooling.
Step 5: Matching Algorithm Implementation
• Develop a matching algorithm that takes into account the criteria from
Steps 1 to 4.
• The algorithm should prioritize matching users who live close to each
other, work near each other, have similar work schedules, and drive
compatible vehicles.
11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”
Step 6: User Registration and Profile Creation
• Create a user registration process where individuals interested in
carpooling can provide their information.
• Users should create profiles with details about their location,
workplace, work schedule, and vehicle type.
Step 7: User Interaction and Ride Requests
• Implement a system that allows users to interact and send ride requests
to potential carpool partners.
• Users should be able to specify their ride preferences, such as desired
departure times and meeting points.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Step 8: Ride Confirmation and Communication
• Develop a communication platform that enables users to confirm ride
requests and coordinate logistics.
• Ensure that users can communicate securely through the platform to
plan rides.
Step 9: Rewards
• Rewards to encourage users to participate in carpooling.
• Collaborate with local businesses to provide discounts, rewards.
Step 10: Data Collection and Analysis
• Collect data on carpooling usage, including the number of successful
matches, shared rides, and distance traveled.
• Analyze the data to measure the project's impact on traffic reduction
and fuel savings.
11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”
Step 11: Feedback and Continuous Improvement
• Collect user feedback to identify areas for improvement in the
carpooling platform.

Step 12: Marketing and Awareness

• Promote the carpooling platform through marketing and awareness
campaigns.
• Use various channels, such as social media, local events, and
partnerships, to raise awareness.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Step 13: Evaluation and Reporting
• Evaluate the project's success against predefined criteria and metrics,
including reduced traffic congestion and fuel cost savings.
• Prepare periodic reports to share with stakeholders and the
community.
Step 14: Expansion
• Develop a plan for expansion based on the project's success.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Planning of the Project
• Project Documentation:
• Create a project documentation plan to track and record project
progress, decisions, and outcomes.
• Ensure that all project documents are well-organized and easily
accessible to team members.
• Communication Plan:
• Develop a communication plan that outlines how project updates,
reports, and important information will be communicated to
stakeholders and team members.
• Contingency Planning:
• Prepare contingency plans for unforeseen circumstances or challenges
that may disrupt the project's progress.
11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”
Milestones of the Project
• Platform Development Initiation:
• Start the development of the carpooling platform or app.
• Establish a project timeline for development.

• User Survey and Interview Phase:

• Conduct user surveys and interviews to understand commuter
preferences and challenges.
• Analyze and compile survey data.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

• Initial Platform Prototype:
• Develop and present the initial prototype of the carpooling platform.
• Gather feedback from potential users.

• Marketing and Awareness Campaign Launch:

• Begin marketing efforts to promote the carpooling platform.
• Launch awareness campaigns in the target communities.

• Partnership Agreements:
• Finalize partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
• Define the terms of collaboration and incentives for participants.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

• Platform Testing and Optimization:
• Test the carpooling platform with a small group of users.
• Collect user feedback and make necessary improvements.

• Full-Scale Platform Launch:

• Officially launch the carpooling platform for public use.
• Monitor user registrations and participation rates.

11/24/23 <Title>
Timeline
• Present a timeline or project schedule
• Highlight important dates and deadlines

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Expected Outcome
Reduction in Traffic Congestion:
• Anticipate a reduction in traffic congestion during peak hours in the
target areas where the carpooling platform is implemented.
• Mention that fewer single-occupancy vehicles on the road can lead to
smoother traffic flow.
Lowered Fuel Costs:
• Expect individual participants to experience reduced fuel costs as they
share rides and split expenses.
• Share statistics or calculations on the potential savings for carpooling
users.

11/24/23 “ DriveShare : Safe, Save, Solve ”

Decreased Carbon Emissions:
• Project a decrease in carbon emissions and a positive impact on air
quality in areas where carpooling is adopted.
• Explain how fewer vehicles on the road can lead to reduced
greenhouse gas emissions.
Positive Economic Impact:
• Highlight the potential economic benefits of reduced congestion and
fuel consumption, including increased productivity and reduced
transportation costs for businesses.
Community Building:
• Emphasize the community-building aspect of carpooling, as it
encourages people to connect and build relationships with others in
their area.
