Title of the Project:-

ISOLATED SOFT SWITCHED BOOST DC-

DC CONVERTER WITH LOW VOLTAGE
STRESS AND HIGH STEP-UP RATIO FOR
SOLAR APPLICATIONS.
3
Abstract
• This project presents a novel soft-switched isolated boost converter which can
provide a high-step-up ratio and high efficiency with low-voltage stress for
photovoltaic-assisted converter system.

• A lossless active clamp snubber circuit helps in achieving zero-voltage-switching turn-

off and zero-current-switching (ZCS) turn-on of the main switch and ZCS turn-off of
diodes that reduce switching losses.
• An auxiliary switch with an energy recovery circuit helps to increase power
conversion efficiency and reduces switching stress across the main switch.

• The proposed idea is simulation through computer-assisted software and validated

experimentally through a designed prototype.

• The project is designed to achieve maximum output
voltage from a given dc input.
• The solar panels are used to convert solar energy into
electrical energy.
• The Dc voltage of solar panel is controller using solar
charge controller.
• The output of controller is given to the battery.
• The battery stores the electrical energy.
• The 12 Volt battery is used in this project.

Continue………
• To perform Boost-operation the proposed non-isolated boost
converter is used.
• The controller can be microcontroller PWM signal generator is
used to control the duty cycle of switching signals to mosfet.

• Based on performance and requirement this can be selected

while developing the hardware
• The Boosted DC output is driving the linear DC load.
• The simulation is done using Multisim software , Matlab can
also be used ( but it will take lot of time to give results)
7
Problem identification.
• The existing boost converters like fly back,
partial resonant buck-boost etc. converters
suffer bigger transformer size , more number
of switches ,hence more losses.

Working…………
• There are ten modes of operations illustrated
for the proposed converter.
• There are from mode-1 to mode-10.
• These modes are explained in next slides
• Basically here we are converting dc into ac
then again into dc to get a boosted dc output
12
Mode-1
• This mode starts when S1
is on and second resonant
tank Ls and Cs which are
on the primary side as
shown in Fig., starts
resonating with an angular
frequency, by vr2 =
(1/LsCs).

• The snubber inductor

current ils flows through
Ls, Ds1, Cs, and S1.

13
Mode-2
• This mode starts when the
iLr direction changes.

• Resonant current flows

through Lr, Cr, and D2 as
shown in Fig.

14
Mode-3
• In this mode, DS2 is turned on
as shown in Fig.
• At steady state voltage across
CC is VCC. During t2 , t , t3,
current iLs, is expressed as
iLs(t) = iLs(t2)+(VCc/Ls)(t2− t)

• iLs reaches zero and this

confirms the end of this mode.

• As iLs s zero and it ensures

diode DS1 and DS2 are ZCS
turned off.

15
Mode-4
• This mode ends when iLr
reaches zero after
resonance formed by (Lr–
Cr) as shown in Fig.

16
Mode-5
In this mode, iS1 is equal to Ii+
ILm which is constant as
presented in Fig.

17
Mode-6
This mode starts with turning
off of main switch S1. Then Ii
+ ILm flows through Cs, Ds2,
and Cc as shown
in Fig.

18
Mode-7
• In this mode, diode D1 is on as
shown in Fig.
• Lr and Cs start resonating, and
the esonating current flows
through CS, DS2, Lr, D1, and
Cr iLr(t) = [1 − cos (vr3(t − t6))]
(Ii + ILm) where vr3= n/LrCs

• this mode ends when this

resonating current reaches the
value of iLr = (Ii + ILm)/n.

19
Mode-8
Ds1 is turned-on in this mode
as shown in Fig.
Current iLs is expressed as
iLs(t) = VCc + V0 n−
VCs,max+VCr,max
n×CsLssin (vr2(t − t7)).
At this mode iLs reaches zero
value.

20
Mode-9
In this mode, switch S1 is
turned-off.
Magnetising current
maintains core magnetic flux
as shown in Fig.

21
Mode-10
• This mode starts when switch S2 is
turned-on.

• The stored charge in floating

capacitor CS is transferred through
S2, D5, to the capacitor C1.

• The on time for switch S2 is lesser

than main switch S1 off time. The
resonating tank formed by L2, C1,
C2 helps to recover energy to the
source when D3 is in forward bias,
shown in Fig.

22
Expected outcome………
• The expected outcome of project is
• For a given
Vin = 12v dc
Vout = 175v dc.
