Osmosis
Osmosis is the movement of water or other solvent through a plasma membrane
from a region of low solute concentration to a region of high solute concentration.
Osmosis is passive transport, meaning it does not require energy to be applied.

A simple solution is basically two substances that are evenly mixed together. One
of them is called the solute and the other is the solvent. A solute is the substance
to be dissolved (sugar). The solvent is the one doing the dissolving (water).

Solvent + Solute = Solution

Types of Solution

Hypotonic solution Isotonic solution Hypertonic solution

Advantages and Disadvantages of Heuristic Method
Advantages Disadvantages
 It helps in achieving cognitive, affective and It cannot be used at primary level of education
psychomotor objectives i.e. it helps in all round
development of the child.
 Students are put into the situation to learn by Higher intelligence and divergent thinking is
self-experience. It certainly develops self- required in the learners. But, there are some
confidence and self-reliance in the learners students who are below average and fail to succeed
in discovering the solutions of the problems. It
frustrates them.
 Teacher is always ready to provide individual In true sense, none of the teachers have patience
guidance regarding the solution of the problem. for providing individual guidance to the learners.
And learners, too, feel hesitation to approach the
teacher for seeking his help
 Teacher encourages the learners to explore the
environment in search of the solution of the
problems. By doing so, some new knowledge is
discovered by them.
 It helps in developing scientific attitude and
creativity in the learners.
Thus interaction between the teacher and the
learner takes place in a cooperative, conducive
environment.

Suggestions

There can be number of solutions for a problem. So, it is the

teacher’s duty to provide guidance to the learners to select the most
relevant solution of the problem.

Problem should be related to the course and curriculum and a

definite time period should be allotted to the learners to finish their
research work.

Students’ abilities capabilities, interest and choice of the subject

should be taken into consideration in allotting the problems.

There should be an eligibility criteria for providing the problems.
