Absenteeism is a habitual pattern of absence from a duty or obligation without
good reason. Generally, absenteeism refers to unplanned absences. Absenteeism
has viewed as an indicator of poor individual performance, as well as breach of
an implicit contract between employee and employer. It is seen as a
management problem, and framed in economic terms. More recent scholarship
seeks to understand absenteeism as an indicator of psychological, medical, or
social adjustment to work. Student absenteeism is a prevalent issue in
educational settings, adversely affecting academic performance and overall
student outcomes.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

• This study aims to investigate the underlying factors


contributing to absenteeism patterns among students
and their subsequent impact on school attendance and
academic performance at Bicos National High School.
SPECIALLY, IT SOUGHT TO ANSWER THIS QUESTIONS:

1. What are the effects of absenteeism on school attendance and


academic performance of students at Bicos National High
School?
2. What are the reasons why students commit absences?
3. What are the impact of absenteeism on students learning
behavior?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study gives highlights to Investigating Students Absenteeism Patterns: Factors Influencing School
Attendance and Academic Performance. Particularly, the result of the study may be beneficial to the following:
• To the students – this study develop a warm open relation with them and create opportunities that encourage
them to approach you with their problems.
• To the teachers – this study helps to provide a deeper understanding of why school attendance is so important
for students.
• To the researcher – through this study we will find the causes and effects of absenteeism on students academic
performance and we will know the reason why they do commit absences.
• To the future researcher – this study help to provide a deeper understanding the reasons, schools can find ways
to help these students come to school more often. This helps students do better in school and ensures that
everyone has a fair chance to learn.
