THERMOMETE
R:
WHAT IS IT? A thermometer is an instrument for
measuring temperature. It usually
consists of a narrow glass tube
containing a thin column of a liquid
which rises and falls as the

HYSTORY OF THE
THERMOMETER:
The invention of the thermometer is generally atributed to the
Italian mathematician-physicist Galileo Galilei.
In 1593, Galileo Galilei invented a rudimentary water
thermoscope, which for the first time, allowed temperature
variations to be measured.
In 1654, the first thermometer was invented by the Grand
Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinand II. The Duke used alcohol as his
liquid.
TYPES OF A Medical thermometer is used to measure body

THERMOMETE A laboratory thermometer is used to measure the

room temperature of hot solids and liquids in
RS experiments.

Digital thermometers measure the temperature by

means of an electronic circuit.
