Learning Objectives
To define what is a model of
communication and become familiar with
some notable examples (Aristotelian and
Shannon Weaver)
To be able to explain how factors like
setting and noise affect the effectiveness of
communication
Key Understanding
Students will learn to recognize the type of
communication models they engage in and will
come to understand how some key factors
(setting, noise) affect and inhibit the flow of
effective communication.
Key Questions
How do models of communication work and
what are some key factors that inhibit the flow of
effective communication?
What is a Conceptual Model?
Role-Playing
1. Based on the Aristotle Model, choose any occasion of your
choice. Then perform a role-playing in class wherein you will be
the speaker. Plan and make an outline of the theme you intend to
deliver to your audience. Next describe the venue and its
atmosphere and how your audiences would appear. What would
they be wearing to the event? How do you expect them to
behave and participate?
2. Recite to the class the next day why you chose that specific
occasion. For example: if Hollywood awards night, why?
Because I dream of and want to be an actor/actress, want to wear
cocktail gowns, dinner dance party and so on and so forth.
