1. Explain what independent assortment means.
 States that genes for different traits can segregate independently during the
formation of gametes. Independent assortment helps account for the many
genetic variations observed in pants, animals, and other organisms.

2. Describe two inheritance patterns besides simple dominance.


 Some alleles are neither dominant nor recessive, and traits are controlled
by multiple alleles or multiple genes.

3. What is the difference between incomplete dominance and codominance?


 Incomplete dominance - cases in which one allele is not completely
dominant over another - (red and white = pink)
 Codominance - cases in which both alleles contribute to the phenotype.
(red and white = red flower with white dots)

4. Why are fruit flies an ideal organism for genetic research?


 They are small, easy to keep in a laboratory, and able to produce large
numbers of offspring in a short period of time.
