1 (a) (b) Briefly explain about the following antennas and its applications. (i) Wire antenna. (ii) Aperture antenna. (iii) Micro-strip antenna. An antenna has a radiation resistance of 72 , a loss resistance of 8 and a power gain of 12 db. Determine the antenna efficiency and its directivity. Derive the EMF equation for a small loop antenna. A loop antenna direction finder has a square loop aerial of 1 m width and 40 turns. The loop having Q = 100 is connected to a receiver tuned to 1 MHz. Calculate the input voltage to the receiver, if the field strength is 10 V and the loop is oriented at 60 from the direction of the transmitter. What is array factor? Explain. State the application of array. What is the required for tapering of arrays? Explain. What is V-antenna? Explain its characteristics. Explain about inverted V-antenna. in parasitic array less than the Design Yagi-Uda antenna of six elements to provide a gain of 12 dB if the operating frequency is 200 MHz. With the test antenna connected, the detector output meter is adjusted to read full scale or zero decibels. Now with the slandered calibrated antenna connected, the output is down 7 dB. If the gain of calibrated standard antenna is 15 dB, calculate the gain of the antenna under test. Explain the horn antenna in which the flaring is done along both E-plane & H-plane direction. Explain the different modes of propagation of electromagnetic waves. Assume the wave propagation through the D-layer of ionosphere having the refractive index of 0.5. Determine the frequency at which the wave propagation is possible through the D-layer if the electron density is 400 electrons/m3. Give the condition for the formation of ducts and explain M-curves. Determine the power transmitted by the transmitting antenna if the incident electric field strength at the receiver is 20 mV/m. Assume the gain of the transmitting antenna is unity and distance between the transmitting antenna and receiving antenna is 80 km.
