Express Yourself!

Deck of Cards (sorted for number of students in class)


Notecards
Pen/Pencil
Music (optional)

Purpose:
First Day of School Ice Breaker

Duration:
Dependent upon Number of Students

Activity:
o Give each student a blank notecard and a pen/pencil. (5
minutes)

Have them write five interesting or not so interesting


things about themselves or habits, goals, etc.
o

Give each student one of the pre-sorted cards. (2-3 minutes)

There will be four of each number card, so divide them in


to pairs by putting Hearts and Diamonds together and
Spades and Clubs together.

Once in partners, instruct students to greet their partner and


share what is on their cards. (5-8 minutes)

Students will then take the info they learned about their
partner and read it aloud to the class while the the 2nd partner
dances what they put on the notecard about themselves.

Soft music in the background is optional.


Students are strongly encouraged to clap after each
presentation.
Instructor is also encouraged to participate.
