Q.

1 A piece of insulating material is to be

heated by dielectric heating. The size of the
piece is 10 10 3 cm3. A frequency of 30 mega
cycles is used and the power absorbed is 400 W.
Determine the voltage necessary for heating
and the current that flows in the material. The
material has a permittivity of 5 and a power
factor of 0.05.

Q.2 A piece of an insulating material 2-cm thick

and 120 cm2 in area is to be heated by the
dielectric heating. The material has a
permittivity of 5 and a power factor of 0.05. The
power at 800 V is 300 W. Determine the cycles
per second.
Q.3 A piece of plastic material of length 5 cm,
width 2 cm, and thickness 1 cm is placed in
between two electrodes having dimensions:

length 25 cm, width 2 cm, and with 2-cm

distance between them. The frequency of
voltage impressed across the electrodes is 20
mHz. If the power consumed is 80 W, find the
voltage applied across the electrodes and the
current through the material. Assume relative
permittivity as 5 and power factor 0.05
