Standard 1.0 School Vision
Element 1.1 Steward a Shared Vision of Learning
Activity: (MILF 1.4): Resources Aligned to Support the Vision
Time: 10 hours
Artifact: Agenda and Power Point Slides from personally conducted Back to
School Night presentation to parents of the revised school vision
statement
Description: The presentation I gave was directed toward students entering the 8th grade.
This presentation helped students and parents understand some of the high school
requirements including SSL hours, activities that would be available to students for the
school year and general expectations of 8th grade students. I also explained the school
mission and vision statement during the presentation.

Reflection: A school mission and vision statement is an incredibly important part of the
school. It explains to parents, students, teachers and faculty the overall purpose, goals and
strategy as to how the school will effectively educate the child. This activity was covered in
EDAD 642, EDUC 590, and EDSU 643. ELCC Standard 1.0 deals exclusively with vision. The
mission statement should set priorities for school curriculum, staffing, and expenses. Some
schools seem to take the mission statement and vision more seriously than others; however
at Boonsboro Middle School this was a detailed process which included a team of teachers
working diligently to come up with and appropriate statement to represent the school. After
completing this activity I was able to see the high importance of the school mission and
vision statement.
