Activity: (MILF 8.3): Community stakeholders and school partners
who readily participate in school life: Assist in implementation of a
recognition breakfast for students and community partners
Time: 5 hours
Artifact: Program for the STARS breakfast
Description: The STARS breakfast is a program that recognizes students
who excel by showing great improvement in their classes. Faculty and staff
can nominate students to be recognized each semester. Community
members, school administration, parents and school board members are
invited to attend to program.
Reflection: I spent 2 hours helping compile names of students who were
nominated, another hour helping set up tables and programs and 2 hours at
the program. The breakfast is a nice incentive for the students and it gives
them something to work toward each semester. This award is nice because
it doesnt simply recognize students who have a 4.0 GPA, it is designed so
that teachers can recognize students who they see making a genuine effort
in class to improve their work. A lot of effort goes into setting up this
program and I believe the work is genuinely appreciated by the students.
