Evaluation
Students will be evaluated by creating an empathy map based on the video watched in class.
Students are to create a problem statement, this will only be correct if the mind map is done properly.

Lesson Success
This lesson would be considered successful if:
1. The students were able to apply empathy in order to create an empathy map.
2. The students were able to come up with a problem statement that solves the stakeholders pain point at the end of
the session.

The instructor will ask the question: What is empathy?
In their groups, students should define the word empathy, then create a
poster that briefly explains it. (either by drawing or writing key words) Then
post it on the white board.
After all teams define empathy, the instructor will briefly emphasize the
meaning using all posters displayed in order to ensure all students are
comfortable with the word empathy.
This will be followed by a brief introduction, and class objectives and
learning goals.
Show a 4 minute video about the empathy map.
Students are instructed to write notes directly on to the empathy map
template provided, as they watch the video. (An empathy map template is
handed out as support.)

Students are then given a chance to briefly discuss and recap the contents
of the video to ensure that all members understand all aspects.

A short video is played in class the person in the video is the stakeholder,
the students must fill in the empathy map template individually as they
watch the video. As if they are interviewing this person as their customer.

In their groups, students will present to the rest of the class, their Problem
Statement that they developed using the empathy map. The problem
statement must be written on an A4 paper and displayed for the class to
see.

Students will evaluate each others Problem Statement, using a checklist


of a proper problem statement. Students will then vote for the best
problem statement through www.polleverywhere.com this will allow the
students to vote comfortably using their mobile device of their choice.
The instructor will then lead the class to writing one problem statement
that combines the best out of all the problem statements written by the
students.
