How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

✘ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation: Students will be introduced to a short example podcast story after
they have read the story. Students will sign up according to which character they want to describe,
however there are limited spaces per character. As a class, we will come up with a script outline for

students to base their script on (e.g., creating example questions, introductions, and closings). Each
group will create a script and design their podcast. Each student must speak at least once on the
podcast. Each podcast will be 1-minute to 1-minute and 30-seconds long. The lesson will conclude
with each group presenting their podcast and allowing for a short Q&A afterwards.
Managing student learning: Class creation of the outline for the script will have a 5-minute time
frame. The teacher will then have students work in their groups to create a script for 15-20 minutes.
The teacher will provide a quick class tutorial on how to create a podcast on Spotify for Podcasters.
After tutorial, if students have questions, they must ask 3 classmates before asking the teacher.
Students will have 10-15minutes to record podcasts before presentations.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This lesson plan supports the UDL principle for Action and Expression because the activity provides students
the chance to express their thoughts and ideas about a character in their story by creating a podcast.
Reflection: I believe that students will be more excited to write because this activity engages writing
and turns it into storytelling. I am excited to hear their podcasts and short stories because students
can be creative and imaginative when given the chance.
