The month of November at Sumalo Integrated School was not just a regular month; it
was a celebration of the National Reading Month. The school kicked off the festivities
on November 7 with a spirited ceremony during the flag-raising ceremony, setting
the stage for a month-long celebration dedicated to the love of reading.
One of the highlight events during the National Reading Month celebration was the
Mystery Reader sessions. The Elementary department was graced by the presence
of the enigmatic Hanna Aligarbes, who brought stories to life, captivating the young
minds with her animated storytelling. Meanwhile, in the High School department,
Mrs. Josephine Avanceña took on the role of the mysterious reader, enthralling the
students with her choice of literature.
The National Reading Month at Sumalo Integrated School was not just about
listening to stories; it was a holistic approach to promoting literacy. Students
engaged in various activities, such as the "Project DEAR" (Drop Everything and
Read), where everyone in the school took a moment to pause and immerse
themselves in the world of books. Additionally, the school promoted peer tutoring,
encouraging older students to assist their younger counterparts in developing strong
reading skills.
