PRESENT:
Pete Auty Judy Baker Julie Bateman John Burgess Annie Robertson
Ric Stubbings

APOLOGIES: NIL

1. Report from Acheron Meeting by John. 120 people @ Statewide Forum. John
spoke for 40 mins. Members of DHS, Council, VBBRA etc in attendance.
Feedback has been excellent.
2. Information from Liam McCarthy:
Issues:
a. Men’s Day for Flowerdale (suggestions, food, bbq, refreshments, guest
speakers, V8 super cars, live music, fly fishing, chainsaw courses, 4WD,
fencing workshops, Health & wellbeing stalls, discreet health checks for men,
time 10-3pm)
b. Book & Music CD exchange through Shire and Mobile Libraries and/or
volunteers,
c. Business Employment & Career Expo.
3. Email from Leanne Pleash: request to speak to FRC re future of material aid.
Issues: For how long will relief be given? In what form should relief be given?
(VBRRA have appointed Moya White as the material aid co-ordinator.)
Our discussion revolved around consulting the community re: staged, slow
phasing out material aid. Also discussed material aid sourcing more practical
items such as tools etc.
Committee agreed Ric and Julie respond to the email.
4. CFA.
Pete reported: Tuesday night meeting, Peter Creek (Region 12 Ops Manager) &
John Leiben (Group Officer). CFA hierarchy has interfered with the Flowerdale
CFA’s dealings with Darley. To now fund the Ultralight Tanker CFA hierarchy
wants to use Paul Newman Foundation money ($60000) plus a top-up from
Darley to fund ($60000). He says that there are only 4 turnout jackets allocated
to Flowerdale CFA brigade, and stated that Flowerdale members should provide
their own torches, lights etc. Ultra light tanker will be delivered to Flowerdale
CFA by November after negotiations are completed between the FRC and
Darley.
Of The 1.2million GOVERNMENT grant for CFA Region 12, Flowerdale got NOT
ONE CENT.
Pete read his new poem: Johnny and the Weasels.
5. Darley: are paying for all furniture for IPO plus laptops.
6. We have received a Draft Term of Reference document produced by the Shire of
Murrindindi and VBBRA.
Committee’s response: this is work in progress to make amendments etc but
not a high priority at this point in time.
7. Status Report: FRC concerned about lack of feedback on status reports. Clear
communication and Community Updates are a high priority. We have asked for
feedback.
8. A “hook-up” between John, Pete, Mara Bunn, CEO, Green Cross Australia, and
various others. Frequently flyers with Virgin were welcome to donate frequent
flyer points to bushfire affected communities. They wanted the points worth
$183k to be given to Flowerdale but Red Cross objected. Green Cross are still
keen to look at “sustainability” for Flowerdale – looking at lobbying various
politicians at all political levels, to achieve their aims of building a more
sustainable Flowerdale. Water and renewable energy feasibility for Flowerdale
has been done.
9. Judy: CFA training at Lorne. A gentleman has a piece of Art to donated to a fire-
devastated community. Wants this to be housed a non-denominational Church
or similar. Committee suggested that we use this in the rebuilding of the
Community House.
10. Julie: Full use of colour printer, laminator etc at hub.
11. Annie: Flyer content is dominated by VBRRA media releases. Julie and Annie to
consult with Brenda re how to create a work engine to help produce a more
community-friendly Flyer.
12. Julie: re funds for Recovery Committee to be reimbursed for expenses. Kim
Fawcus advised that all monies to go through ATO before it is allocated.
13. Julie: Transport Work Engine: We have an established work engine for Transport.
The meeting looked at the needs of the area, looked at inter-connective
services. There is funding for transport through the Council (Judy Pay). Sept-Oct
a community survey re: transport is to be issued.
14. Julie: Trees. Julie spoke of the implications of wholesale dropping of trees,
including removal of vital top soil. No 1 Creek at Kinglake has had surrounding
forests decimated.
15. John: Meeting on Thursday night with Kinder key stakeholders. Places: current
FPS (needs land acquisition), Creekside parcel of Land across from CFA shed,
and Burnside. Next meeting next Thursday night. It was decided at that
meeting that the Flowerdale Community House was a separate issue to Early
Learning.
16. Flowerdale Recovery Plan. We learned last week that the VBRRA imposed time
line to produce a Recovery Plan for Flowerdale, was very short, in fact, is due on
August 18th 2009. John, Julie and Peter Williams have produced a first draft for
community consultation at the next Community Meeting (Friday fortnightly
meetings). The Recovery Plan is, to date, a 16 point plan: which includes, in
draft form
• Communication
• Safety
• Transport (includes Bridges and Sealed Roads)
• Community House (including all Health Services for all age groups)
• Education
• Rebuilding
• Environment
• Recreation
• Rec Centre
• Jarrara Space
• The Economy
• Art & Culture
• Community Hall
• Memorial
The Committee agrees that John, Julie and Pete continue to work on the
Flowerdale Recovery Plan.
We need to focus on this Recovery Plan. Committee to look at information from
drafts and produce feedback so that a first draft can be submitted at next
Friday’s meeting.
