The longest revolt: dagohoy , 1744-1825

The longest rebellion during the Spanish period was began by Francisco
dagohoy in bohol.
In 1744 - (the curate of inabangan)
Alcaldes mayores - that time the boholanos seethed with resentment at the
heavy taxes paid.
Fr. Guiseppe Lamberti ( The Jesuit curate of Jagna ) the first victim of the
rebellion , was killed on January 24 , 1744.
May 27 , 1827 a Filipino Spanish force number 2, 200 under Jose
Lazaro Cairo.
April 1828 another force under Captain Manuel Sanz.
August 31 , 1829 fighting ended and Governor Mariano Ricafort allowed
the rebels to live in the Lowlands .
- By that time the original leader of the rebellion , Francisco
Dagohoy , was nowhere to be found because he had died as
a free man . His remaining followers were settled in the
villages which are now the town of Batuanan , Balilihan ,
Cabulao , Catigbian .and Vilar.

The basi revolt of 1897

In 1786 the establishment of a Government wine monopoly caused


resentment among the ilocanos who traditionally brewed their own wine
popularly known as Basi.
September 16 ,1807 revolt which began in Piddig , ilocos , spread to
badoc and Santo Domingo.
The Basi Revolt - was the only one of its kind in the Philippines and it
resembled the whiskey rebellion in the United States when the early
American Government imposed an unpopular monopoly as a way to raise
revenues .

Revolt of the kailianes of ilocos

In 1815 one offshoot of the events in Europe was the sarrat rebellion.
In 1812 they framed a liberal contaution which granted equal rights to all
people in the colonies.
May 4 , 1814 when they French ended their occupation of spain . King
Firdenand abrogated .The Cadiz constitution through a royal decree.
March 3, 1815 the common people of sarrat numbering 1,500 revolted
under the leadership of Simon Tomas , Mariano Espiritu , Vicente
Santiago , and Andress Bugarin . They belonged of the Kailianes or the
leading citizens of Sarrat.

The revolt of apolinario dela cruz , 1841

1840-1841 the last of the widespread religious rebellion in the 19 th


Century was that of Hermand Pule .
July 31 ,1815 Apolinario de la Cruz , Herma Pule was born in Barrio
Pandak , Lucban ,Tayabas .
December 1832 De la Cruz and a Filipino secular priest named Circiaco
de los Santos and Nineteen other founded the cofradia de Senor
