Grade and Topic: 2nd Grade Health Length of Lesson: 50 minutes for 1 day
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
TLW demonstrate their knowledge on the proper tooth brushing techniques through a quiz with 85%
accuracy.
Using ToonDoo on a computer, TLW create a comic about something they have learned in this unit.
TLW demonstrate their ability to use a printer by printing the comic they created in class to give to the
teacher.
Student Participation
The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate that they can read and watch information about brushing
their teeth and then answer questions about what they just learned. Students will also demonstrate that they
know how to use ToonDoo to create a comic. Students will also show that they have learned a concept from this
unit by translating a concept into a comic.

Technology Integration
Students will use the Colgate website listed above to watch a video and read about the proper tooth brushing
techniques. After this part of the lesson is finished, students will go to the ToonDoo website and create a three-
slide comic of a concept they have learned in this unit. They will demonstrate the ability to navigate to these
two websites, to create something new on ToonDoo, and eventually they will demonstrate their ability to print
their comic to hand in to the teacher at the end of class. A sample of what the finished comic might look like is
attached to this document.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of
this particular lesson.
Introduction:
Begin by using the overhead to show students photos of how gross their teeth could look if they do not
brush them.
Show students how to access both websites.
Show students an example of what their comic might look like and explain how to get started through
ToonDoo.
Explain that students have 15 minutes to read the Colgate website, 5 minutes to complete the quiz, and
then 20 minutes to complete and print their comic.
Direct all students to computer.
Procedures:
Closure: (5 minutes) The teacher will then have one student volunteer to share with the class the comic they
created. The teacher will then collect all of the printed comics and dismiss class.
