Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:
The student teacher will give number cards to each group. Then as a group they should 10
count on and count back to 3 times. For example, 16. Count on; 16,17,18,19. Count back;16,
15, 14, 13.
Here the Cards number that I will give to each group: 3, 12, 22, 30.

Then, the student teacher will give the students a real coins and notes for the dirham.

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):

1- The student teacher will present a PowerPoint about why money is important, and
where we use money. Also, she will introduce the key words to the students. 30

2- After that, the student teacher will introduce the three activities to the students. She will be
molding one for each one.

Emerging: working with the teacher, students will have mini bookshop on their table that has prices
from 1 to 10, and flash cards that has instruction of what they will buy from the mini bookshop. Then
they need to count the total of what they have using count on. Then pay using the coins, and record
their answers in math journal.
Mini bookshop:
2 glues with price of 6 for each.
3 markers with price of 5 for each.
2 erasers with price of 3 for each.
3 pencil with price of 2 for each.
1 scissors with price of 4.
3 pens with price of 3 for each.
1 ruler with price of 7.

Developing: The students will work in pairs; Each student draws 5 items on their mini whiteboard and
gives each item a prices between 10 AED and 30 AED. They swap whiteboard with their partner, the
partner will choose three items that she wants to buy and circle it. Then they swap boards back again,
and work out the total amount that has been circled. Finally, they will tell each other the correct
amount to pay to each other using note and coin. They will record their answers in math journal.

Mastered: They will work independent. Students will work in pairs; they will have menu list of
McDonald's restaurant. One of the student will the waiter and the other will be the customer. The
customer will choose what she wants to buy, then she will count the total to give to the waiter using
the notes and coins, and the waiter needs to give the correct change. Then they will swap.
McDonald's restaurant:
Pepsi: cost 15
Chicken burger: cost 22
beef burger: cost 26
French fries: cost 18
ice cream: cost 14

Every 2 minutes, the student teacher will go around the groups and give feedback, and give hints to the
students who has their answers wrong.

The student teacher will give the students a paper called Ticket out the Door, What did I learn?. To
write what they have learn for this lesson.
