At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students shall have:
A. Enumerated the common wire splices and joints
B. spliced and joined wires
C. observed proper procedure; and
D. participated in discussion of the lesson.
II. CONTENT:
A. Concept : Common Wire Splices and Joints
B. Sub-concept : How to Splice and Connect Wire

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory activities
1. Daily routine
- Opening prayer, checking of attendance.
2. Drill
Students will identify electrical symbols
3. Review
Students will cite samples of conductor and insulator
4. Motivation
- Teacher will perform a trick (3 rope knotted to become 1 rope)
- Teacher will tell about the importance of firmness of wire
connections.
5. Unlocking of difficulties
Definition of Terms
Conductors – materials through which electrons can move easily
from atom to atom. (e.g. silver, copper).
Insulators – materials with very high resistance, it cannot conduct
any current when voltage is applied ( e.g. rubber, plastic )
Splice- to join together, as two ropes.
Joint – place where two things come together and are united.
B. Presentation :
(Lecture and discussion using the illustration)
Common Wire Splices and Joints
1. Rat-tail Joint – used in wires which are seldom pulled.
2. T-joint or Tap splice – used for extending a branch circuit
from the main.
3. Western union Splice – used to protect service wires from
to much pulling or tension.
4. Under writer’s Knot – for wires in lamp receptacles and
male plug to prevent being pulled from screw terminals.

C. Application :
(Teacher will demonstrate and then the students will counter demonstrate)
Performing Wire Splices and Joints
Steps:
1. For Rat- tail Joint
a. Prepare 2 pcs.4 inches long wire conductor size #14.
b. Remove rubber insulation about 2 inches of each wire
c. Join the two wires across each other and twist together.

2. For T- Joint or Tap Splice

d. Prepare 2 pcs. 4 inches long wire conductor size # 14.
e. Remove rubber insulation at the center about 2” at the center
f. Remove the rubber insulation of the other wire about 2”
g. Hold the first wire in horizontal position, and then splice/ coil
other wire in a clockwise manner.

D. Generalization:
Students will summarize the subject matter. I learned that…
