Work Immersion Narrative Report

(1st Week)
December 11, 2018 – the day Ma’am Chona Gualvez took us to our Immersion
venue, MASELCO Inc. at Pinamarbuhan, Mobo, Masbate. The very first person who meet
us is the OIC of MASELCO. After Ma’am Chona left us on our own, and since there is no
work given yet, the OIC of MASELCO entertain us by sharing her experiences working as
an OIC. Then, she asked us questions regarding to our background – name, birthday, place
of birth, and residency. After that, a formal interview starts. She checked our resume,
specifically the achievements, and asked questions regarding to it and checked if our
application form has no errors. In the afternoon, a personnel told us to follow him to show
the wirings and diagrams of MASELCO in the entire MASBATE. He explained us how
the electricity works, how they deliver electricity to the consumers, and the struggles of
having many complaints. We just listened the whole afternoon.
December 12, 2018 – Since we don’t have much to do inside MASELCO, we were
transferred from the Institutional Department to the Metering Section, where manual
operation of MASELCO is happening. We were tasked to join the Metering Team to do a
job. On that day, their job is to inspect metering facilities of Ariel Lim in Acid. We helped
to pack necessary equipment to be used in inspecting. We rode a private van to the
destination point. After arriving, the team immediately check the possible trouble of the
metering facilities of Ariel Lim. We asked questions as they fix the trouble. We learned so
much that day. We learned on how to systematically check possible trouble in a system
and how to fix it.
December 13, 2018 – We went to Villa Lucia at Barangay Mayngaran to install
metering facilities to the LGU like construction helmet and rubber gloves to avoid or
minimize injury if anything Masbate Waste Management. We were tasked to carry the
equipment and materials to be used in installing the metering equipment. We were also
tasked to observe the way of installing it. We wrote some points and ideas regarding to it.
We are required to used safety equipment bad happens.
December 17, 2018 – We don’t have any job or task given since the wind is very
strong and rainy. They said that is very risky for us to a field job. So what we did is we
stayed inside MASELCO and studied their safety precaution that they strictly follow to
avoid injury or casualty.

December 18, 2018 – Since it is still raining, we are tasked to fix a faulty socket
inside MASELCO. We helped the electrician in fixing the burned socket that hasn’t been
repaired for days. We asked the electrician on why it happened. He said the reason is
because of the heavy rain. The water enter the crack of the wall, resulting in a short circuit
that made the socket burned.

(2nd Week)
December 19, 2018 – We went to Mandaon, specifically inside DEBESMSCAT
to inspect and test their metering facilities. The personnel said that their electric
equipment do not properly work. As we check the voltage of the wire, the team
concluded that someone is tapping the wire, or a jumper might be the cause. Jumpers
steal electricity by tapping to other people’s metering equipment. And another result is
getting a low voltage since there is too much use of electricity.

December 20, 2018 – We went to Placer to install metering equipment to the

newly open commercial building, a grocery store, called La Nina Grocery Store. On that
day, it is rainy, so what we did is we helped the team to unload the materials and
equipment and carry it to the store.

December 21, 2018 – We went to Placer again to install the metering equipment
of the said store. We learned how a transformer works and how they use it. On the very
first time, we learned how to install the transformer, the proper wirings and diagrams but
we did not do the manual installation since the equipment that they are using are very
heavy. We wrote down notes on the process of installation.

January 3, 2018 – We went to Pulang Bato in Balod to inspect and test metering
facilities. The people living near the metering facilities suspected that there may be a
branch hanging in the transmission wires. We checked and truly, there is a branch
hanging in the wire. That is the reason why there is no electricity in there. We took a long
time to remove it since the branch is in the very top of the transmission wire. After
removing the branch, we checked and tested the wires again, and luckily, that is the only
trouble that we’ve encountered.

January 4, 2018 – On the last day, the team were tasked to change the metering
equipment of every residence in Barangay Tugbo, Masbate. The reason for this mass
replacement of metering equipment is that there is a very big system loss and the reason
for it is the old metering equipment. Old metering equipment are already malfunctioning,
resulting to wrong reading. I am amazed because they did not turn off the main power.
They replaced it while the power is on, and they are not even afraid of being electrocuted.
We did not insist to help since they said that it is too risky and only experts should do it.
