FOREWORD

“Work Immersion refers to the part of the Senior High School (SHS)

Curriculum consisting of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation

which the Grade 11 and Grade 12 students will undergo to expose them to the

actual workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school

under the supervision of the School Head and the designated personnel of the

Partner.”

In view of this, the Work Immersion Portfolio is a compilation of written works,

activities, and experiences that we have completed as a student in Work

Immersion. It contains documents which will provide tangible evidences of the

wide range of knowledge, skills, we possess as a growing professionals.

Therefore, Work Immersion portfolio determines how a student shows the

faculty that they are making progress toward achieving the stated standards or

outcomes of the work site.

for her genuine apprehension, advises, guidance, valuable comments,

suggestions, provisions, and knowledge that benefited us much in the completion

and success of both work immersion ad work immersion portfolio.

We are extremely grateful to Ms. Odessa P. Ferrer, the Assistant Cashier

and to Mr. Manuel A. Agonoy, the Cashier B whom shared and taught us about

the things we needed to do inside the office and for expanding our knowledge

about cashier as a profession and its works.

INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in

learners the competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further

basic education and the nation’s development targets. Work Immersion, a

required subject, has been incorporated into the curriculum. Learners are

immersed in actual work environments in which their prior training is relevant.

Work Immersion will help develop among the learner’s life and career skills,

and will prepare them to make decisions on post secondary education or

employment. It provides an avenue to test themselves and apply what they have

learned in a non-school scenario.

In Work Immersion, learners are not only able to apply their previous training

but are also able to experience the social interactions in a work environment.

Their experiences during work immersion will develop many skills and values that

would help them as they transition from high school to real life.

NATURE OF THE INDUSTRY

MARIIS DAM AND RESERVOIR DIVISION - RAMON, ISABELA

HISTORY

The construction of the Magat Dam and appurtenant structures was

authorized by P.D. 693 signed on May 7, 1975 by the late President Ferdinand E.

Marcos. The Dam was constructed in 1978 and was inaugurated by President

Marcos on October 27, 1982. It started operations in 1983. The project was

implemented based on the preliminary study conducted in 1973 by the National

Irrigation Administration (NIA) with the assistance of the United States Bureau of

Reclamation (USBR) and the United States Agency for International

Development (USAID). Subsequent detailed and extensive damsite investigation

and engineering studies further confirmed the feasibility of what is now known as

NIA's most daring infrastructure project and one of Asia's biggest dams today.

The dam is part of the Magat River Multipurpose Project (MRMP) which aimed to

improve the existing Magat River Irrigation System (MARIS) and the Siffu River

Irrigation System (SIFFRIS) and increase the production of rice in the Cagayan

River basin.The project was jointly financed by the Philippine Government and

the World Bank which extended a US $50M loan to finance the foreign exchange

requirement. In addition, a US $9M from Bahrain was obtained for the purchase

of
other equipment for the diversion tunnels, soils laboratory and model testing.

Total project cost is 3.4B pesos (yr. 1975). The irrigation facilities, including the

reservoir, the intake gates to the hydroelectric plant, and the dam itself, is owned

and managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) while the

hydroelectric plant was owned by the National Power Corporation (Napocor).

Under the Electric Power Industry Reforms Act of 2001 (Republic Act No. 9136),

the Magat Dam hydroelectric plant underwent a privatization process. As a result,

the plant's ownership and operation was turned over to SN Aboitiz Power Inc.

(SNAP), a joint venture of a local company, Aboitiz Equity Venture (AEV), and

the Norwegian SN Power Invest (SN Power) in April 2007.

OF THE WORK
PLACE
NIA-MARIIS DRD Office wants to encourage a safe and pleasant work
atmosphere. This can only happen when everyone cooperates and commits to
appropriate standards of behavior.

The following is a list of behaviors that the company considers unacceptable.


Any employee found engaging in these behaviors will be subject to disciplinary
actions:
1. Failure to be at the work place, ready to work, at the regular starting time.

2. Willfully damaging, destroying, or stealing property belonging to fellow


employees or the company.

3. Fighting or engaging in horseplay or disorderly conduct.

4. Refusing or failing to carry out any instructions of a supervisor.

5. Leaving your work station (except for reasonable personal needs) without
permission from your supervisor.

6. Ignoring work duties or loafing during working hours.

7. Coming to work under the influence of alcohol or any drug, or bringing


alcoholic beverages or drugs onto company property.

8. Using threatening or abusive language toward a fellow employee.

9. Punching another employee’s time card or falsifying any record.

10. Smoking contrary to established policy or violating any other fire protection
regulation.

11. Willfully or habitually violating safety or health regulations.

12. Failing to wear clothing conforming to standards set by the company.

13. Being tardy or taking unexcused absences from work.

14. Not taking proper care of, neglecting, or abusing company equipment and
tools.

15. Using company equipment in an unauthorized manner.

Thus an employee must always practice:


 Respect and Discipline.
 Keen focus especially when being instructed.
 Obeying those who have mandate and Follow instructions.
 Participation.
 Always being on time and on point.

ESSAY BEFORE WORK IMMERSION

Every work place has set of rules, whether you’re at the job of your dreams

or at a temporary training ground of your career path.First thing to remember is to

know the nature and culture of the company. It’s important to dress appropriately

for your job and make sure it’s clean and neat.Also, arriving on time to work

demonstrates commitment to your job. Remember that school is different from

work, no more excuses/ considerations. Everyone gets frustrated from time to

time at work. Even if how much tired you are, it is always important to put a smile

on your face to attract positivism .Regardless of how you’re feeling, it’s important

to stay respectful.You can show respect to supervisors by listening to what they

have to say. If you have difficulties in some things, don’t give up easily, take it as

a challenge for it will make you better, keep in mind that no one has ever

succeeded because of laziness so always push yourself to the limits.If they

coach you in an area, strive to improve. Make sure you always end up your day

to learn something new.

Keep in mind that at the workplace, strive to keep your communication

professional.Furthermore, wear your smile always. Wear it before,during, and

after your job.As long as you conduct yourself with respect and confidence, work

immersion can be fun and successful for you.Always see everyday as an

opportunity towards your brighter future and don’t forget to ask God for guidance

and protection, that you may be able to continue living tomorrow and the next

days, always believe in yourself, because this is going to be your best weapon

while you are living.

ESSAY BEFORE WORK IMMERSION

During the preparations for Work Immersion, I have always been wondering

how does it feel to be working in an office with the job you really wanted to do. It

filled me up with so much excitement and at the same time I started to feel

curiosities are conquering my mind with questions such as “will they like me if

they get to know me and my capabilities?” “Is my communication skills enough?”.

Even with those, I keep on telling myself to be calm and just be myself.

So I prepared myself starting with the documents needed for Work

Immersion, I made sure all are complete. There is a saying, “what you wear

defines your personality” that’s why I made sure that the clothes I am going to

wear are properly kept in a clean place to avoid stains and dirt on its fabric. I

believe in first impression lasts therefore my goal is to make a good impression

not just with the knowledge I have but also with my physical appearance.

I am looking forward to experience a job environment where I can apply my

learnings into practice. I hope this work immersion will help improve my skills,

knowledge and hopefully, I’ll be able to handle work and manage my time even if

I’m under pressure.

TEAM LEADER
REFLECTION
Being a team means working with a partner or a group together to achieve

faster and better results. It means equal tasks to each members of the team in

order to manage quotas and or to finish all the things needed ahead of schedule.

During work immersion, only two of us are assigned in NIA-MARIIS DRD

Office Cashier and Finance Section. We both have the desire to learn, improve

and strive that’s why it is a relief for me as a leader because I have a partner

whom I can trust with.

In the whole duration of Work Immersion, we both did our responsibilities.

Even if we are tired because of the endless recording of transactions and our

hands already felt the numbness but there’s not a day passed without us

finishing our tasks.

It takes great understanding, patience and enough knowledge to last a day at

work. Fortunately, my partner and I worked hard not asking for a higher grades

but because of our commitment built to the workplace, to our supervisors and to

ourselves.

Work Immersion taught us with no book-based information, it taught us why

experience is the best teacher. It may only be an 80-hours training but it will

surely be a part of who are we going to become someday.

INDIVIDUAL
REFLECTION
Immersion period is one of the many factors wherein your ability to

appreciate essential and profitable business processes will be measured.

Moreover, this is the period wherein you are given the chance to apply all the

skills and necessary attitudes that you have learned from school.

With all that is happening throughout the world, this paper has provided

me the opportunity to reflect on my ethics. Values and ethics are part of our

everyday lives. We wake up to these values and beliefs each day as they are the

“rules” that govern us. Ethics is not just about morality; it is a complex dimension

of personal and corporate life that can lead to higher performance by both

business and society. All of us especially those in the business world, need to

make immediate decisions. The choice we make need to be driven by our ethics

I was able to explore the standard ethical principles that I have learned from

religious, work, family, role models, experiences, and school, pick the most

applicable ones, refine and polish them according to my conscience.

As a work immersion student attitude is very important. Therefore, I will

strive always to be honest, straightforward, and frank with those around me.

As we have seen, respect is very essential contributor in forming a

positive work culture. So, I will also respect the rights of other people to form their

own opinions and decisions based on facts gather from me or from other

sources. I will not manipulate these outcomes. I will be steward of the files and I

will also remember the confidentiality of the records that the company may

entrust to me. I will strive to communicate with others in a way that enables and

empowers them to make informed decisions. This paper helped me recalibrate

my moral compass. It has helped me construct and confront those what-if

situations. I shall not cheat in any setting (academic or business). When faced

with an unfair situations where others are cheating, I will not stoop to their level

by also cheating. I will strive to use language that is accurate, precise, and

appropriate. I believe that acting like professional really means doing what it

takes to make others think of you as


reliable, respectful, and competent. A reliable employee is the one who is always

address mistakes a soon as possible. As long as you conduct yourself with

respect and confidence, work immersion can be fun and successful for you.

“Experience gives us the tests first and the lessons later.”

Work Immersion is not just about work, it is a training where we can develop

and expand our knowledge. Enhance our skills and improve our way of

communication. We may not be receiving salaries for working but we are learning

from immersion.

At first, I thought working is easier than learning but it’s a lot more

complicated than that because you handle your own time, you practice your own

knowledge, one wrong move and you’ll need to start all over again.

Based from what I have had observed from the work immersion, a person

must sacrifice his her time, travel, priority and set aside emotions in order to

reach his/her goals. There’s no such thing as “break time” in work. Eat when

hungry, drink water if thirsty but one must never leave his or her office

unattended.

In relation with Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), Analyzation

and perseverance is the key to success. Knowing how to analyze transactions is

a very important feature of an accountant. What we have learned in NIA-MARIIS

DRD Office Cashier and Finance Unit are ethics inside of an office, recording of

transactions, filling of folders according to their labels, bank reconciliation, proper

way of communication with clienteles and many more that are in lined with our

desired course. .

I believe those training made me realized how eager I am in becoming an

accountant someday, hopefully. If its not for me then I would likely to take

courses in relation with business and management.


DEVELOPMENT
PLANS
I want to be a nurse. As a nurse, I will be able to use my profession

anywhere in the world. I can work with many people every day, both patients and

staff. Furthermore, nursing will allow me the flexibility to have a family. I can see

myself riding a luxurious car whenever I go to work, buying mom and dad

different cars and houses, and whatever they want.

I can also foresee myself investing my savings to different properties to

secure the future of my children. Every time I go to mall, I am no longer checking

price tags because I can afford to buy it. I can go to the places I want without

worrying of the expenses, I can afford to travel the whole world with my family

and bring them to their dream destination.

Aside from paying back the sacrifices and efforts of my parents, ten years

time I can see myself being an ideal mom of three children, and dream wife of a

successful man.
