Note: All questions carry equal marks

la. Describe theissen polygon method of finding the average precipitation in an area. How is this method
better than simple average arithmetic method?

lb. How is missing data in precipitation record estimated? Describe in detail.

2a. Define pan coefficient. Why is pan coefficient used for estimation of evaporation in evaporimeters?

2b. During a month of 30 days, the following data was observed for a reservoir:

Catchment area = 460 ha, evaporation = 54 mm/month, rainfall contribution = 14.6 cm, other losses = 30
m3/day, average river inflow = 1100 m3/s, power channel withdrawal = 1500 m3/s. Compute the loss /gain
of water in Million m3.

3a. What is the difference between single ring infiltrometer and double ring infiltrometer? Explain the
advantage of double ring over single ring infiltrometer.

3b The rainfall on five successive days on a catchment are 2,6,9,5 and 3 cm. If the p index for the storm
is assumed as 3 cm/day, find the total surface runoff

Compute the ordinates of 12 hr unit hydrograph using (1) method of superposition, and (2) S curve
method

4b. Define channel routing. What is the need of performing routing?

5a. What are the various means by which velocity can be measured in rivers? Explain one point and two
point method of velocity measurement.
