Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For students who are visual, they can write out their podcast and read it
off the paper when they are recording. By doing this, it also allows other students to read their podcast if they
don’t learn well by just listening to it. For students who are auditory, they can record a few seconds at a time
and play it back before continuing.

Lesson idea implementation: Students will start out by listening to the teacher’s podcast that debates
whether PE should be a required class. The podcast provides views from both sides. Students will then decide
what side they want to take, and they will create their own podcast discussing their view point and providing
research to back up their side. This project will probably be introduced at the beginning of the semester. It is
a great way for students to understand why physical education is important to have every day but also lets
people see viewpoints of why some students may see it as a waste of time. This project will also allow me to
work with those specific students and provide a positive learning environment to hopefully change their
views of PE.
Each podcast will be 3 minutes long. Students will be given two class periods to work on this project. One day
to research and write out their script and a second day to finish up their script and record it. Student learning
will be assessed by listening to the podcast and analyzing the student’s argument toward the debate. Student
learning will also be assessed by whether if the student provides evidence from research in their podcast. The
final project will be used to show the class that everyone has different views and that’s okay. To extend
student learning, I could allow students to reply to someone else’s podcast stating an opposing view to one of
their statements. This allows students to think deeper. I can provide student feedback by using Vocaroo
which would allow me to record my comments and post them for students to see how they did on their
podcasts.

Importance of technology: An audio recording tool is critical to have for this project because without it,
students wouldn’t be able to record for their podcasts. Since a podcast is a recording of you talking, this
project would not be completed without an audio recording tool. Without it, students would just have to type
up a paper and they or the teacher would have to read it in front of the class. No other technology will be
used for this except Microsoft word, where students will type their script for the podcast.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some internet safety issues that might come up with this project is
students being able to post what they want and third party use of student information. Third part use can be
prevented because teachers can set the privacy setting to a closed network to where only students can view
and use it. Since this project is being done during class time, the teacher can monitor what the students are
researching and posting by walking around the room and also viewing their computer screens from the
teacher’s computer. I can also alleviate fears had by parents and administration by first checking the
common-sense website to see if I should use it, if they approve, then I will also get approval from
administration to use the websites.

Reflective Practice: This lesson could impact student learning by providing them with why PE is important and
should be a required class. It also allows students to see that everyone has different view points and not
everyone thinks PE should be a class, so they should respect each other’s views. This project was designed as
a beginning of the semester project. To further extend the lesson, I could have students reply back to
someone’s podcast that had a different point of view.
