1. Which of the twelve attributes is the highest among the teachers?

The highest attributes among the teachers is refinement.

2. Which of the twelve attributes is the lowest among the teachers?

The lowest attributes among the teachers is emotional stability.

3. How many teachers are low in emotional stability?

There are two (2) teachers who are low in emotional stability.

4. How many teachers are high in compassion?

There are nine (9) teachers who are high in compassion and five of them are
very high in compassion.

5. What six attributes are found to be strong among the teachers?

The six attributes that are found to be strong among the teachers are:
 Cooperativeness
 Refinement
 Compassion
 Pleasantness
 Buoyancy
 Self-motivation

6. What six attributes are found to be weak among the teachers?

The six attributes that are found to be weak among the teachers are:
 Self-confidence
 Resourcefulness
 Intelligence
 Reliability
 Emotional stability
 Objectiveness

7. What interesting observations can you spot from the other data not asked?

I have observed, except for one, that their level of intelligence and level of
self-confidence are somehow directly proportional. The higher they rate in
intelligence the higher their self-confidence.
5
1. Why are some teachers reported to have bumped a learner’s head on the
wall or made a child swallow scratch paper or pencil filings? What attribute
do you think is low for this teacher?

I think the attributes low for such teacher is Emotional stability. Emotional
stability is the capacity to maintain ones emotional balance under stressful
circumstances. If you are emotionally stable you can tolerate minor stresses and
strains, you are able to maintain composure. But in this case the teacher seems
to be unstable person, the teacher tends to be easily provoked in anger and get
controlled by his/her emotions that he/she ends up hurting the students.

2. Why do you think some teachers are better loved by students than others?

Some teachers are better loved by students than others it is because of

how the teacher treat their students both inside and outside the classroom.
Those teachers with happy disposition, easy and pleasant to speak to are better
loved by students that those who are very strict and seemingly unapproachable.

3. If you were to choose, which personal attributes should all teachers

possess? Why?

For me, all of the personal attributes being rated in the questionnaire
must be possessed by all teachers. Because I think those twelve (12) attributes
are what defines a total developed and capable teachers.

6
After reflecting on this episode and recalling my previous subjects, I have
realized that there are several concepts in the teaching profession about personal
attributes I learned that has been affirmed and confirmed that:

1. A teacher must be emotionally mature.

2. Teaching is not merely about intelligence, it’s also about good

personality.

7
Using what I have learned in this episode, when I become a teacher, I must and
should be one who is not just intelligent enough but someone with a good personality.

Teaching is more than sharing, its all about inspiring. Inspiration drives
motivation, and motivation is a powerful tool one can use to impact lives and cause
changes.

People get inspired as your actions touch their lives.

Among the three of you, who is more inclined to be essentialist,

perennialist, progressivist, essentialist or behaviorist?

 TEACHER #1 is more inclined to be essentialist, progressivist.

 TEACHER #2 is more inclined to be behaviorist, perennialist &
progressivist.

11
1. Observed actions of a teacher who is a progressivist:

Progressivist teacher believe that one learns by doing, she expose to many
new scientific, technological, and social developments. She let students solve
problems in the classroom.

2. Observed actions of a teacher who is a behaviorist:

Behaviorist teacher teach students to respond favourably to various stimuli

in the environment. They are concerned with the modification and shaping of
students behavior by providing for a favorable environment.

12
To become a teacher is not easy. Teaching has many demands, your influence
as a teacher on your student and to the people with whom you work and live depends a
great deal on your philosophy of education. It has been said “Your philosophy of
education serve as your “window” to the world and “compass” in the sea of life.

My experiences and observations are of great help of my becoming a teacher

because it teaches me a lot of lessons which I may apply in the near future when I am
already in the school and classroom settings.

13
1. Affirmed Concept 1: Your attitude towards problems and life as a whole has
underlying philosophy.

may find yourself more consistent in your dealings with other people, in your
action and decisions.

3. Affirmed Concept 3: The teacher’s plays a big role to help society- its
events, its people, and its destiny.

14
A. In Teaching and Learning:

I must and should always consider the learner as the center of the learning
process. Learners must be an active participants in the learning process.

B. In addressing diversity of learners:

I should treat each student or learner fairly. I should bear in mind that no two
individuals are the same. Each learner possess different talents and abilities.

C. In creating a conducive learning environment:

As a teacher, I must be creative in my teachingstrategies to make learning

process fun, easy and effective for learners. I will make my classroom comfortable,
neat, and well-maintained for me and the learners.

EPISODE 3

THE TEACHER IN A SCHOOL SETTING

INTRODUCTION

A teacher as a professional will always be found in a school setting. There will

be no school without the teacher because a teacher’s official working place is a school.
A school is an institution where learning occurs under the guidance of a professional
called the teacher.

This episode will help me describe a typical school day teacher and understand
the teacher’s role in creating a conducive learning environment in the school.

Areas of Focus For Observation in the My Observation
School setting
Physical setting
1. Classroom arrangement Facilities are well-arranged, tables and chairs
are in good condition, classroom is spacious,
clean, well-decorated, well-lighted and well-
ventilated.
2. Bulletin Board Located inside the classroom, cute and
artistically made, good enough to be seen by
everybody inside the classroom, written
announcements are clear and neatly posted.
3. School Playground Clean and well maintained, there are kiosks
for pupils and parents/guardians,limited
facilities
4. Learning Resource Center Located in one corner of the classroom, with
Television, DVD Player, activity books, Flip
charts
Socio-Psychological Setting
1. Class routines Class started with a prayer, singing of national
Anthem, warm-up activities (physical
exercises, singing of nursery songs), checking
of attendance, lesson discussion
2. Teacher activities Lead the prayer and the warm-up activities,
write subject matter on the board, let pupils
read a story written on the visual aid and on
the board, assists students to their personal
needs
3. Learners activities Learners participated in classroom activities
like prayer, singing the national anthem and
warm-up activities, copy lessons written on
the board in their notebooks, read story
written on the board and in flip charts
4. Co-curricular activities Learners were asked to draw and apply colors
to their drawings and do choral readings

5. Extra-curricular activities One of the pupils celebrated her birthday. The

teacher, pupils and their parents/guardians
participated in the birthday celebration.

17
Based on the teacher’s program, my observations and my interviews, I saw
teaching as not only a full time but a multi-tasking job. The teacher does not only teach
inside the classroom but he or she does things beyond his or her job description. A
teacher plays so many roles to his or her students outside and inside the classroom.
One cannot be a teacher for just an hour, a day or a year but once a teacher always a
teacher.

The teacher’s workplace is really conducive for learning. The facilities and
equipments being used as tools for learning are in good condition and healthy for the
welfare of both the learners and teachers.

I found out that the teacher and the learners have a pleasant relationship. I don’t
see any serious problems and disturbances during class discussions. Learning process
goes smoothly as expected. Learners are very participative and teacher really
considered the learners as the center of the learning process.

18
My previous learning in the content courses that were affirmed by this learning
episode are:

1. That teaching is a full time and multi-tasking job;

2. That the learning environment must be conducive to both teachers and

learners;

3. That the relationship of the teachers and learners must be pleasant to

achieve the
objectives of learning.

19
How can I improve the school setting that I have observed when I become a
teacher?

1. Classroom management:

My future classroom will be conducive for learning. It must be clean and

well-maintained all the time. I will see to it that classroom facilities like chairs,
tables and blackboard are in good condition.

2. Bulletin board display:

I will see to it that Bulletin board must be displayed outside the classroom.
It must be located in aplace or area where everybody in the school can see what
is being posted on it. Bulletin board must contain important and reliable
information posted on it.

3. School playground:

I will help the school administrator and other school personnel in

maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the school playground. I will suggest to
the school administrator that there must be enough facilities in the playground for
the students to enjoy during their free time.

4. Classroom routines:

I still do the usual way of classroom routines like starting the class with a
prayer, checking of attendance and assignments, et cetera. During the lesson
proper and discussions, I will think of effective and artistic way on how to make
my lessons interesting to students. If possible and with available resources, I will
use modern technologies as tools for learning. I will make it to the point that my
class will not be boring and ineffective.

20
5. Teacher activities:

As a teacher, I will be innovative in doing any learning activities so that my

studentswill learn many things from me and the lessons I am teaching them.
Aside from doing the usual activities that an ordinary teacher does inside the
classroom, I will think of ways to make learning easy and fun for my students.

6. Co-curricular activities:

As facilitator of learning, I will let my students do co-curricular activities

because
they must be an active participant of the learning process. I will make them do
activities that will enhance their skills, abilities and talents as an individual.
Through co-curricular activities, the students will also learn while enjoying what
they are doing.

7. Extra-curricular activities:

As a teacher, I must also consider the personal and social needs of my

students.
I will let them do extra-curricular activities outside the classroom for them to meet
other students with different personalities. I will encourage my students to
engage themselves in different activities like playing ballgames and other
physical activities and even joining in singing and acting groups. Social
interaction is also part of learning. It has a great influence in the total
development of any individual.
