    Fertilization is the process of fusion of male and female gametes in human reproduction. Sperms travel through the vagina and cervix into the fallopian tubes where the female eggs are located. A single sperm penetrates the outer covering of an egg in the fallopian tube and fuses with the female nucleus inside to form a zygote, combining the genetic material from both the male and female into a single diploid cell.     Human reproduction

    Humans reproduce sexually. The male produces sperms and the female produces eggs.

    The process of fusion of male and female gametes is called as fertilization.

    In humans, sperms travel through the vagina, cervix and travel up to the fallopian tubes
    (oviducts). 
    Here, only one sperm succeeds to penetrate the outer coverings of the ovum and the
    male nucleus fuses with the female nucleus.
    Thus, two haploid nuclei fuse to form a diploid zygote, which undergoes further divisions
    and gives rise to an embryo/fetus.
