LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

CONSERVATION OF MECHANICAL ENERGY

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Given the available materials, the students should be able to:

1. describe the law of conservation of mechanical energy;
2. relate their knowledge of the law of conservation of energy with the conservation of
mechanical energy; and
3. solve problems related to conservation of mechanical energy.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Conservation of Mechanical Energy

1. Concept:
 Law of Conservation of Mechanical Energy: The total amount of mechanical energy, in a
closed system in the absence of dissipative forces (e.g. friction, air resistance), remains
constant.
B. Materials:
 Paired reading material
 Laptop ; projector
 Whiteboard marker

III. LEARNING TASK

A. Routine activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Classroom settings

B. Lesson Proper
1. Engage
 The students will play the game called Jeopardy.
2. Explore
 Students will do the Paired Reading Activity. The teacher will provide the reading
material for the students.
3. Explain
 After the allotted time given to students, the teacher will initiate a classroom
discussion by asking questions about the reading material. The students will then
come up to the realization of the concept of the lesson.
4. Elaborate
 The teacher will further discuss the concept through equations and problem solving
5. Evaluate
 Students will be given 1 to 2 practice problems.

IV. AGREEMENT
A. Homework
Answer the problem.

During a flood a tree trunk of mass 100100 kg falls down a waterfall. The waterfall
is 55 mm high.

If air resistance is ignored, calculate:

a. the potential energy of the tree trunk at the top of the waterfall.
b. the kinetic energy of the tree trunk at the bottom of the waterfall.
c. the magnitude of the velocity of the tree trunk at the bottom of the waterfall.
