CHAPTER 1
Introduction
The researcher chose the topic on how to handle time
management in cooking among Grade 11 Students to make it meaningful to
the society and also encourage the Filipino people to handle the perfect time
management, as an researcher the responsibilities and duties are need to
express perfectly and wisely on the topic chosen. Time management is
completely widespread in the Filipino society,future Chefs and Specially
Filipino youth. The Filipino uses the adrenaline in a bad way, this topic is
very important to tackle among many topics that been discussed because
it’s need to prevent. Handling right way of time management in cooking has
many benefits on the people and future chefs it will give knowledge to the
people to make a better time management, it also give skills,jobs,good ethic
and other positive identity to step up in the society life. The people need to
remember always that “Time is Gold”, time is everything,time is
important,time is life.

Review of Related Literature

Local Literature

According to Palabrica,(2012) that there are moves to make the


“Filipino time” or the habit of manyFilipinos coming late and unproper time
management. The Department of Science and Technology in cooperation with
the Philippine Representative announced that the plan to make the Filipinos be
time conscious. Dubbed as “Juan time” project, The project will start with
encouraging Filipinos to synchronize the clocks and watches with the Philippine
standard time to make Filipinos aware.

Time management is the conversion of time to match people’s needs


and wants. People decide on what activities to be included for the
day,week,month, or year. Time management can reflect a person’s goal, at
home and at work. Candelario,(2005)

Also, Candelario (2005) defined time management as the use of time


that is available in the most productive manner – the development of a clear
objective for a job, and the identification of activities that will help accomplish
and can lead time manager toward greater effectiveness. No matter how well
something is done, it has no value if it fails to contribute directly or indirectly to
the achievement of objectives.

In junction with Candelario (2005) are Picked and Brown (2006) who
view time management as a skill which above all others can make the difference
between graduating and drop out; for students sometimes believe that effective
time management is a characteristics rather than a pattern of activity that can be
learned.

On the study conducted by the researcher, as per time management as its bearing
on study habits of adolescents, it not just the behavioral and physical aspects of
time managing that recede efficiency, but also, the social constraints, that poor
study habits and poor time management among the students considerably caused
by continuous decline of education in our country. Padua,(2003)

Foreign Literature

According to Coelho,( 2015) that One thing leads to another. As kitchen


staff are in the kind of position where by nature are asked or are expected to do
more than most can fit into the normal routine. If you professionals manage the
time well, then you can accomplish the important aspects of your job and look
good, but if you are not wise in choosing priorities for your limited time, you
may work very hard and still look very bad in the eyes of your superiors. This
can be most frustrating and detrimental to you as frustration exerts pressure in
one’s mind and eventually on one’s body.

Time management is important for the different personal lives and career
success. It teaches the students or the person on how to manage the time well in
cooking or in daily life effectively and make the most of it.
Remez Sasson,(2016) shows the few reasons why the time management is so
important, and how it can help the person or the student use and manage the
time in Cooking and Daily life to be more advantageously:

1. Time is a special resource that cannot store or save for later use.
Everyone has the exact same amount of time each day. Time not well
used cannot be retrieved
2. Most people, feel like have too much to do and not enough time. The
students blame lack of time for the poor finances, stress, bad
relationships, and for not exercising of person or student’s body.

Time effectively is important for successful study but it is equally


important professionally and socially. Just like money, time is a resource
that can either use wisely or waste. (University of Greenwich)

Macan (1994) as cited by Jex and Elacqua (2007) in his study had
found that engaging in time management behaviors
(goalsetting/prioritization,mechanics of time management, and preference
for organization) was associated with lower levels of job, releted tension,
somatic tension, and higher levels of job satisfaction.

Review of Related Studies

According to (Shazia Nasrulla),Time management scores of the


student’s show the way to score of academic achievement as concluded that
students who scored poor in academic achievement gained significantly
lower in time management. There found an association found between time
management practices, academic achievements and stress reduction as the
research study demonstrated that an association exists between anxiety
lessening, practices of time management and higher academic success.
Moreover, there is an association between time management abilities and
educational outcomes. Giving time to studies outside the class or at home
have some positive impacts on the studies and spending more time working
have some negative impacts on the students.

Statement of the problem

The main objective of this research is to understand the origin and


importance of handling right way of time management in cooking and
determine its advantages and disadvantages among Grade 11 Commercial
Cooking (TVL) students.

Specially, this study aims the following:


1. Analyze the importance of handling time management
2. Determine it causes among grade 11 Commercial cooking
students.
3. Evaluate the interventions done by teachers and students to
solve this problem.

Significance of the study

This study aims to unravel the advantages and disadvantages


of handling time management in cooking among Senior highschool
students; particularly the Grade 11 Commercial Cooking (COOKERY)
students of First City Providential College. Moreover, the purpose of it was
to make the students knowledgeable in this situation that time management
can lessen problems and hardwork especially to the students.

Scopes and Limitations


This scope of study is focused on understanding a time
management in cooking among Grade 11 students currently studying in
First City Providential College, the researcher aims to describe the
meaning, advantages and disadvantages of handling time management in
cooking.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

This section provides a presentation of related studies which are


significant in consideration. Their statements, findings and conclusions indicate
their influence and relevance to the present research. For me the following
information could help to improve the understanding importance of time
management in cooking:

Time management
is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent
on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency,
and productivity. It involves a juggling act of various demands upon a
person relating to work, social life, family, hobbies, personal interests
and commitments with the finiteness of time.
Frustration
In psychology, frustration is a common emotional response to
opposition, related to anger, annoyance and disappointment, frustration
arises from the perceived resistance to the fulfillment of an
individual's will or goal and is likely to increase when a will or goal is
denied or blocked.
Adrenaline
Adrenaline, also known as adrenalin or epinephrine, is a hormone,
neurotransmitter, and medication. Epinephrine is normally produced by
both the adrenal glands and certain neurons.
Cooking or cookery
Is the art, technology, science and craft of preparing food for
consumption.

Ethics or moral philosophy


is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing,
defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. The
field of ethics, along with aesthetics, concern matters of value, and thus
comprise the branch of philosophy called axiology.
Academic achievement or performance

is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has


achieved their short or long-term educational goals.

Wisely

In a way that shows experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

Career
A career is an individual's metaphorical "journey" through
learning, work and other aspects of life. There are a number of ways to
define career and the term is used in a variety of ways.
Adolescence
is a transitional stage of physical and psychological development
that generally occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood.
Adolescence is usually associated with the teenage years, but its
physical, psychological or cultural expressions may begin earlier and end
later.
Responsibilities
the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of
having control over some.

CHAPTER 2

Methodology

The methodology section of this research paper is all about the


Importance of time management in cooking among grade 11 students. This
research was done in the vicinity of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Some students

are not aware on the importance of time management in cooking, therefore the
researcher would like to determine a solution or the reason why some students
are not familiar on the importance of time management. The source of this
research are highly credible and efficient. Moreover, there are 10 respondents
for this research, which are to answer survey questionnaires honestly and
truthfully. The results or the information that will be gained from the answers of
the respondents were very convenient for the research. Lastly, the respondents
are Senior High School students from First City Providential College.

Research Design

A descriptive research about the importance of time management in


cooking, which is a qualitative research, allows for greater subjectivity and
accuracy of the results. This methods is used because it identifies the various
ideas, different opinions and several perspective of the respondents, who are
students of First City Providential College. This research is made to determine
the causes or reasons why students are not aware on the importance of time
management in cooking. This method also summarizes credible sources of
information and applies high standards defines that the research can be imitated,
reproduced, observed, and differentiated with other studies.

Meanwhile this study includes the understanding of viewing


experiencing several factors that will help the study more efficient and
consequential.

ResearchSetting

The Qualitative Research was done in the vicinity of San Jose del
Monte, Bulacan. The researcher knew that there are some students are not aware
on understanding of time management in cooking in schools. Therefore, the

researcher would like to determine the reasons and the importance of time
management. Respondents of the Study

The respondents were Senior High School students of First City


Providential College from the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. The
respondents are for everybody that has not yet known the importance of time
management in cooking to be eligible for the research. Lastly, the respondents,
must be honest and truthful when answering the survey questionnaire.
Nevertheless, this study has used the biased samples specifically convenience
sample.

Data Gathering Procedure

At least a minute or two is given to the respondents before they


respectively answer the survey question. Each question has its own significant
means that can prove a theory to the said topic. Also, the questions were asked
to elaborate more the research questions which were very convenient to the
study. Furthermore, biased sampling, specifically convenience sampling is the
kind of sampling that was used.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researcher used questionnaires or survey sheets for this study with a
quantitative type. Drop and collect strategy was used to gain the information
needed from the respondents. Postal questionnaires are also used for this
credible research.

The 1st respondent said that, she doesn’t handle her time well in
cooking she’s struggling with her time managing, and she’s not planning her
time, she does not listing her tasks that she’ll do. She also said that
pressured,tardiness, and impatience are the caused of improper time
management. And also according to her creative,patient,joyful are thecauses of
proper handling of time management. She said relationship is the reason why do
people lacks when it comes to time management. She plan her time by
controlling her schedule, and sequencing the activities. And also she consider
herself as time manager individual even if she overcomes her struggle in time
management,because according to her, time manager is not only you get
struggles, it is on how you handle it. She apply time management in terms of
cooking in real life situation, by cooking, she have to plan first before anything
else.

2nd respondent said that, he handle his time well in cooking he’s
struggling with his time managing, and he’s planning his time, he said that he is
listing his tasks that he’ll do. He also said that pressured,tardiness, and
impatience are the caused of improper time management. And also according to
him creative,patient,joyful are the causes of proper handling of time
management. He said poor planning is the reason why do people lacks when it
comes to time management. He plan his time by listing down the task. And also
he consider himself as time manager individual even if he overcomes his
struggle in time management,because according to him, he can manage his time
in cooking . He apply time management in terms of cooking in real life situation,
by cooking, because his time can avoid struggles in terms of cooking.

According to 3rd respondent, she doesn’t handle her time well in


cooking she’s struggling with her time managing, and she’s planning her time,
she doesn’t listing her tasks that she’ll do. She also said that
pressured,tardiness, and impatience are the caused of improper time
management. And also according to her creative,patient,joyful are the causes of
proper handling of time management. She said that poor planning is the reason
why do people lacks when it comes to time management. She plan her time by
controlling her schedule, and sequencing the activities. And also she’s not
considering herself as time manager individual even if she overcomes her
struggle in time management, because she said sometimes she doesn’t handle

her time properly. She apply time management in terms of cooking in real life
situation if ever she will cook.

The 4th respondent said that, he handle his time well in cooking
he’s struggling with his time managing, and he’s planning his time, he listing his
tasks that he’ll do. He also said that Stress,depress,anxiety are the caused of
improper time management. And also according to him creative,patient,joyful
are the causes of proper handling of time management. He said that poor
planning is the reason why do people lacks when it comes to time management.
He plan his time by controlling his schedule, and sequencing the activities. And
also he consider himself as time manager individual even if he overcomes her
struggle in time management, because he said that he can manage his time well.
He apply time management in terms of cooking in real life by preparing first
and cook second.

5th respondent said that, he handle his time well in cooking he’s
struggling with his time managing, and he’s planning his time, he said that he is
listing his tasks that he’ll do. He also said that pressured,tardiness, and
impatience are the caused of improper time management. And also according to
him creative,patient,joyful are the causes of proper handling of time
management. He said poor planning is the reason why do people lacks when it
comes to time management. He plan his time by listing down the task. And also
he consider himself as time manager individual even if he overcomes his
struggle in time management,because he can manage his time quickly and
overcome struggles. He apply time management in terms of cooking in real life
situation, by planning now and do it later.

According to 6th respondent, She said that she handle her time well
in cooking she’s struggling with her time managing, and she’s planning her
time, She said that she is listing her tasks that she’ll do. She also said that
pressured,tardiness, and impatience are the caused of improper time
management. And also according to her creative,patient,joyful are the causes of
proper handling of time management. She said poor planning is the reason why
do people lacks when it comes to time management. She plan her time by
controlling her schedule, sequencing the activities. And also she’s not
considering herself as time manager individual even if she overcomes her
struggle in time management,because she’s never experienced a perfect cooking

that ends in right time. She apply time management in terms of cooking in real
life situation, by making sure that she’d plan everything before she start
preparing needs in cooking.

7th respondent said that, she handle her time well in cooking she’s
struggling with her time managing, and she’s planning her time, She said that
she is listing her tasks that she’ll do. She also said that pressured,tardiness, and
impatience are the caused of improper time management. And also according to
her less stress is the cause of proper handling of time management. She said
poor planning is the reason why do people lacks when it comes to time
management. She plan her time by sleepin. And also sometimes she’s
considering herself as time manager individual even if she overcomes her
struggle in time management,because it depends on the situations and she’s
honestly said that sometimes she is lazy. She apply time management in terms of
cooking in real life situation, is if she is have to wake up earlier because of her
class and she is have to prepare her snacks for her lunch time.

According to 8th respondent, She said that she handle her time
well in cooking she’s struggling with her time managing, and she’s planning her
time, She said that she is listing her tasks that she’ll do. She also said that
pressured,tardiness, and impatience are the caused of improper time
management. And also according to her less stress is the cause of proper
handling of time management. She said poor planning is the reason why do
people lacks when it comes to time management. She plan her time by listing
down the task. And also she’s not considering herself as time manager
individual even if she overcomes her struggle in time management,because
sometimes they don’t know if they’re going to this kind of situation that they
time will be affected. She apply time management in terms of cooking in real
life situation, if it is very important to manage and lern how to make easy but
it’s not them to make haggard while cooking.

9th respondent said that, he doesn’t handle his time well in cooking
he’s struggling with his time managing, and he’s planning his time, he said that
he is listing his tasks that he’ll do. He also said that pressured,tardiness, and

impatience are the caused of improper time management. And also according to
him creative,patient,joyful are the causes of proper handling of time
management. He said poor planning is the reason why do people lacks when it
comes to time management. He plan his time by controlling schedule and
sequencing his activities. And also he consider himself as time manager
individual even if he overcomes his struggle in time management. He apply time
management in terms of cooking in real life situation, by planning properly and
listing what he’s want to do in cooking.

The 10th respondent said that, he handle his time well in cooking
he’s struggling with his time managing, and he doesn’t planning his time, he
said that he is listing his tasks that he’ll do. He also said that
stress,depress,anxiety are the causes of improper time management. And also
according to him creative,patient,joyful are the causes of proper handling of
time management. He said relationship is the reason why do people lacks when
it comes to time management. He plan his time by control schedule, sequencing
the activities. And also he consider himself as time manager individual even if
he overcomes his struggle in time management,because he’s have a lot of duties
to do. He apply time management in terms of cooking in real life situation, by
step by step so that he can handle the situation in cooking.

Summary

This Research paper gives knowledge and good insights among


grade 11 student by knowing and understanding the Importance of Time
management in cooking. This topic is not only just for the students but also for
individuals who has passion in cooking. This research paper also intended to
make students and individuals successful and aware in the importance of time
management in cooking that will give them the self discipline and proper time
management in cooking.

The Respondents answered the questionaires honestly asked by the


researcher,In the question number one 6 respondents said that they handle their
time well in cooking however the 4 respondents did not handle their time well.
In the question number two all respondents said that they are experience
struggles in terms of time management in cooking while the question number
three 9 out 10 said that they are listing the things they will do in cooking to
prevent and to minimize the struggle. The question four asked that “Do you do
some planning in your time managing?” 8 out 10 said that they do some
planning in their time managing.

Aside from that , most of all respondents answered that they consider
themselves as a time manager individual even if they overcome struggles in time
management because they can manage their time quickly and overcome
struggles however 1 of the respondents said that sometimes it depends on the
situations.

Conclusion

Most of the respondents said that they are time manager and can manage their
time and most of all the respondents also handle their time well. In short most of
all the respondents are awared in the importance of time management in cooking
this kind of situation can avoid the struggles and pressure in cooking.

Recommendations

In this section, the research would like provide recommendations


to different individuals:

 For the students, kindly appreciate and follow the simple steps
on how to understand the time management well in cooking to
avoid struggles and plan easily without struggles.

 For the teachers, always remind your students about the


importance of time management in cooking not only for cooking
even in their daily life in school so that they may learn on how to
manifest a good attitude and self discipline.

 For the parents, always monitor your children and maintain a


good relationship with them, always teach the a good manners
and teach them to avoid being tardiness in school,task even in
home because discipline starts in home not on school, not on
teachers.
