learn about letter formation.

Activity When Language Arts time begins, the students will be called by their
table number to the big carpet in front of the smartboard. They will
sit on their bottoms for the first part of the lesson.

Part 1: The teacher informs the class what letters they will be
learning for the week. This week we are working on the letter “A”
and the letter “T”. As a class they will practice making the sound for
each letter. In the format – A apple a- The teacher will ask the
students if any of the sight words we have learned thus far begin
with the letter “A” and then do the same for the letter “T”.

Part 2: The teacher will briefly review (on the smartboard) with the
class which line is the skyline, grassline, and planeline. The students
will then watch as the teacher says the steps (I.E. Point to the
skyline, slide back to the grassline etc.) for writing the letter “A”
while modeling how to write the letter “A” on the smartboard. The
teacher will then have the students stand up and as the teacher
repeats the steps for writing the letter “A” with the stylus on the
smartboard the students will skywrite it.
Pedagogy

Part 3: The teacher will then call for several different volunteers to
take a turn writing the letter on the smartboard with the stylus
while the teacher says the steps and the class skywrites it.
Part 4: The teacher will ask for volunteers to come up and take a
turn writing a sight word the class has learned beginning with the
letter “A” on the smartboard. 1 volunteer for each word.

(Steps 2 – 4 will then be repeated for the letter “T”)

Part 5: The students will return to their tables, take out their letter
journals and a pencil, and turn to the page for the letter “A”. The
students will be instructed to trace/write their first and last name at
the top of the page on the line provided. Then as the teacher says
the steps for writing the letter aloud the students will trace and
then write it on the perforated lines provided in their journal. The
teacher will walk around the room and observe the students writing
while providing them with assistance as needed and
encouragement. The same will be repeated for the letter “T”.
