wObservation Hours Reflection Paper

I completed my observation hours at Greenville High School. I was able to observe 10th, 11th and

12th grade students during my sixteen hours of observation. The teacher that I observed was Mrs.

Gathright. I learned many things that I feel I can use in my future classroom. I learned that as a

teacher we face classrooms with diversity and students that come from multiple backgrounds. As

teachers we have to learn to embrace the wide range of diversity and backgrounds of students so

that each student feels important and so that we as teachers do not show discrimination in any

way.

I liked many things about my time observing. I liked the grade level that I have chosen to teach. I

feel that I can relate to high school students and feel that I can make learning fun and exciting. I

like the challenge that teaching brings. Teaching any grade level will be a challenge but if

teachers can learn to adapt and embrace different ways of teaching and learn from students than

learning can be a great experience for all.

During my observation hours my experience was a positive learning experience. In completing

my observation hours I realized that I still desire to become a teacher and to help students. I want

to help students learn and have fun while they learn. Making school a positive and fun

experience for students will help them to become successful in their educational success.

Mrs. Gathright’s interactions with her students were positive, and helpful. She showed passion,

understanding, and patience with all her students. Mrs. Gathright involved all her students in

discussions and asked questions to help them understand the topics that were being taught. Mrs.

Gathright’s teaching style was mainly lecture, classroom assignments, and class discussions. I

can relate to Mrs. Gathright’s teaching philosophy and style, in my future classroom I myself

want to teach the same way.

Majority of the lessons that I was able to observe were both teacher centered and student

centered. Mrs. Gathright did very well making sure that there was a balance between the two. I

will implement this style of teaching in my future classroom. I feel that a successful classroom

should be both teacher centered and student centered. I feel that lecture, class assignments, and

class discussions help students to learn and give their opinions on subjects.

During my experience observing Mrs. Gathright’s classroom I learned many things that I feel

will help me in my future classroom and as a future teacher. I hope as a teacher to inspire

students to want to learn all they can and to make learning fun and exciting. As a future teacher I

will embrace all the diversity that we see in classrooms and all backgrounds. My goal as a

teacher is make every student feel important and feel that their voice matters and that with a little

effort can be anything and do anything they set their minds to.
