1. SCOPE
The scope of this document is to present the test results for Wavence trial links deployed in Zain KSA
Network.
The tests described in this document are to be executed after the successful completion of Nokia’s
acceptance tests procedure and filling of TRDS sheet for link parameters verification.
Presented tests are designed based on the trial network topology described in the next section.
2. TRIAL TOPOLOGY
The trial consists of three separate links implementing different configurations. This document focusses on
2+0 XPIC link between MK4 and MK2 stations in Makkah region.
The setup uses CoreEVO protected 10G MSS8 at each link end, equipped with EAC10G boards.
The link consists of two 1000MHz cross-polarized e-band channels with XPIC.

Conclusion
- In a 2+0 AP UBT-m link, a single channel of 1,5GHz CS provides around 7.5Gbps of throughput,
leading to an overall link throughput of 15Gbps.
- All cases using Alternate polar configuration are supported up to the highest modulation (256QAM),
regardless of the used channel spacing.

`
Conclusion
- In a 2+0 XPIC UBT-m link, a single channel of 1GHz CS provides around 5.1Gbps of throughput,
leading to an overall link throughput of ~10Gbps.

Adaptive Modulation
Setup
Using the same setup in Previous test, activate ACM on UBT-m channel with all modulation steps
included.
Procedure
1. Record ACM current modulation at each link end.
2. Gradually decrease the Tx power in station MK4, until the system modulation shifts down.
3. Record the link RSL and throughput of the flow at each direction.
4. Further decrease the Tx power in station MK4, and observe modulation switching and analyzer
new throughput.
5. Record the RSL and analyzer throughput at each modulation change.
6. Restore UBT-m Tx power in station MK4 and observe modulation restoration to highest scheme
Results
- System modulation automatically decreases before the received signal level reaches the
corresponding threshold*, guaranteeing hitless switching for high priority traffic.
*Receiver threshold values are detailed in section 4.4 of this document.
- System locks to higher modulation if signal strength is sufficient to keep target MSE.
- Adaptive modulation operates asymmetrically; Modulation levels may differ at each end of the
same radio channel depending on the MSE reading in the remote receiver.

- Configure three Ethernet services routed through the UBT-m radio link.
- Connect an Ethernet analyzer at each service end.
- Configure Nodes MK4 and MK2 with the following QoS settings:
Classification: 802.1p
Queue mapping = Pri N QN+1 (N = [0;7] )
Scheduling:
Q8 SP
Qn DWRR with weight = 2n (n=[1;7])

`
- Configure three flows (F) using the analyzers with the following settings:
F1: 1.5 Gbps, Pri = 7
F2: 3.5 Gbps, Pri = 5
F3: 3.5 Gbps, Pri = 2
Results
- F1 is never compromised, it always maintains the requested 1.5Gbps share of the overall
throughput; as the flow is served by an SP queue (Strict Priority).
- Capacity share of flows#2 and #3 can be determined by the assigned DWRR weights as follows:
- F2 Available Throughput F1 throughput
- F3 Available Throughput F1 throughput

`
- Wavence UBT-m QoS engine contains 12 classification queues, where 8 are configurable for
Ethernet user traffic. To demonstrate this, 8 flows are created with different PCPs, showing the
throughput share of each flow according to its priority.
Receiver Threshold
As signal attenuation using Tx power decrease is not enough to trigger complete link cut, receiver threshold
UBT-m Receiver thresholds for the different modulations and channel spacings are hereby presented,

The setup of 2+0 AP (Test 4.1.2) is used with the setting of both
1.5GHz channels to the same frequency, without XPIC cancellation.
The throughput evaluation in this case cannot be achieved using
RFC2544 test, as the radio throughput is expected to vary over time
due to time varying cross-channel interference.
Procedure
1. Set both radio channels in 1,5GHz CS with frequency reuse
without XPIC
2. Link is maintained under observation for 19 hours
3. The following logs are retrieved from equipment for analysis:
o G.826 performance Data: Containing radio hop performance in terms of ES, SES and
UAS.
o ACM Performance data: Containing information about the time spent (in milliseconds)
by each transmitter on the different modulation schemes.
o UBT debug files: containing information about the MSE evaluated by each UBT receiver
to drive the modulation level at its remote transmitter.
Results
It is important to note the following points prior to the presentation of the analysis results:
1- In a cross-polar system, the component of the cross-channel is not only determined by the
antenna (or OMT) X-Polar Discrimination (XPD); it is also affected by the propagation
impairments altering the wave polarization. Hence the X-Polarization Interference (XPI) is time
varying depending on slight propagation conditions change.
2- As described in section 4.2 of this document, Wavence adaptive modulation mechanism is
driven by the received signal MSE rather than received signal power. This allows the system to
respond to C/I deterioration (Due to XPI in that case) and keep the radio performance clean.

`
3- As XPI increases, with no cancellation engaged, the system automatically reduces the
modulation to maintain good signal quality while compromising the throughput. Modulation
shifts up again when the XPI level allows it.
4- The results presented here are the based on the thorough analysis of a 19 hours sample
dataset , and do not fully predict the link specifications throughout a full year.

Below graph shows how the uplink channels (from MK4 to MK2) alternate between 32QAM and
64QAM to cope with XPI.
While downlink channels alternate between 64QAM and 128QAM according to the evaluated MSE
values:

`
Uplink throughput varies between 11.9Gbps and 13Gbps depending on propagation conditions and their
impact on XPI
Downlink throughput varies between 14Gbps and 15Gbps depending on propagation conditions and their
impact on XPI
