I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
a. Identify coefficient of friction.
b. Solve the word problem in finding the coefficient of friction

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Coefficient of Friction
b. Reference: Science in Today’s World 10, by Dr.Eden Vela, Evangelista ; page 88.
c. Concepts:
a. Definition of Coefficient Friction
b. Friction Occurs in two ways:
i. Kinetic
ii. Static
c. Formula in finding the coefficient of friction:
i. CoF = µ = friction force/ normal force
= f/N
d. Science Process: Lecture, Formula presentation and Activities
e. Materials: Visual Aids- pictures, blackboard and chalk, worksheets.

III. Procedure:
For the teacher For the students

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
“Okay class please stand for the prayer”
(Call one pupil to lead the prayer) - Our most gracious and heavenly father, We
thank you for everything that we have, We
offer our lives, deeds and sacrifices to you,
And may your glory descends upon us, As
the transforming fire of your love and mercy,
Now and forever, Amen.

2. Greetings - Good morning teacher Aster, good

“Good morning class” morning classmates, good morning
everybody.”

- Present
3. Checking of Attendance
“Say present when your name is called.”

4. Review - Yes teacher.

Do you still remember your lesson yesterday?

Your lesson yesterday was about Frictional Force. - Frictional force refers to the force
generated by the surface that contact
What is frictional force? and slide against each other.

- Friction exists whenever two surfaces

are in contact with or slide past each
When does friction exist? other.

- Friction cause by the irregularities on

the surfaces of objects.
What caused friction?

B. Motivation

The teacher will ask question about the picture shown in the
board:

a. What do you think the picture shows?

b. How is the picture related to the lesson yesterday?

C. Lesson Proper

I. Pre-lab

Our lesson for today is about Coefficient of Friction.

What is our lesson for today? - Coefficient of Friction

Alright in this lesson we are going to Identify what Coefficient of

Friction is and we are going to solve problems in finding
coefficient of friction.
What is coefficient of Friction? - A coefficient of friction is a value that
shows the relationship between two
objects and the normal reaction
between the objects that are
involved.

II. Laboratory

Friction occurs in two ways: Kinetic and Static

Kinetic friction acts an object that slides on a surface.

Static Friction occurs when friction prevents the object from

moving.

Force of friction =f
Normal force = N
Coefficient of Friction = µ

F=(N)(µ)

III. Post-laboratory

For any two surfaces in contact such as the block and the table as
shown in the drawing , the ratio of force needed to overcome
friction and the force pressing the surfaces together.

The formula of finding the coefficient of friction is:

µ= f/N

where:

µ= coefficient of friction
f= force of friction
N= normal force

D. Conceptualization

Problem Solving:

If a force of 150 N is needed to push an 800 N cargo on the floor,

what is the coefficient of friction.

Given:
F=150N
N=800 N
Find = µ?
Solution:

µ= f/N
=150 N/ 800 N
= 0.19

E. Application
Word Problems

1. If a force of 250 N is needed to push a 600 N truck to the - 0.42

ship what is the coefficient of friction?
2. If a 50N sack of rice and a force of 30N to push on the - 0.60
ground, what is the coefficient of friction?

F. Generalization

a. What is our lesson for today? - Coefficient of friction

b. How does a coefficient of friction define? - A coefficient of friction is a value that
shows the relationship between two
objects and the normal reaction
between the objects that are
involved.
c. In what ways friction occurs? - Kinetic and Static Friction
d. What is kinetic friction? - Acts and object that slides a surface.
e. What is static friction? - Occurs when friction prevents object
from moving.
f. What is the formula when you will find the friction of - F= ( µ)(N)
force?

g. What is the formula when you will find the

coefficient of friction? - µ=f/N

IV. Learning Process Assessment

1. A coefficient of friction is .27 with the normal force of - 40.5 N

150 N. What is the force of friction of an object?
2. If a force of 250 N is needed to push a tricycle on a - .50
national road of 500N. What is the coefficient of
friction?
3. If a frictional force of 75N and the coefficient of - 375 N
Friction is .20, what is the normal force of an object?

V. Assignment

In a one whole sheet of paper draw two objects that shows friction. And present it in front of the
class.
